The NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the news via his Twitter account on Thursday.

Covington has the distinction of being drafted in both the CFL and NFL drafts in the same year, 2015. He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the NFL draft, and in the fifth round of the BC Lions in the CFL draft. He played for the Texans for four seasons before bouncing around to the Cowboys, Broncos and Bengals. Covington landed with the Chargers last season.
In 2021, he played in 16 games, starting just three. His stats included one forced fumble, one sack and 52 combined tackles. His tackling numbers last season were the best of his seven-year career. His eighth year will be under a new contract in Los Angeles.
