The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Jordan Davis 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Jordan Davis Background
Position: Defensive Line
Size: 6-foot-6, 340 pounds
Class: Senior
2021 stats: 32 total tackles. 5.0 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 pass defended
Davis elevated his play to become one of college football’s best players in 2021. Now he is headed to the NFL Draft.
He wasn’t a big-time recruit, as he was rated at three stars, but Davis signed on with Georgia. Davis was a Freshman All-American after registering 25 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss. He helped the Bulldogs go 11-3 that season. As a sophomore, he tallied 17 tackles, four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. The team improved their record to 12-2 with a Sugar Bowl win. In seven games during the 2020 season, he registered 16 total tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack. The Bulldogs went 8-2 with a win in the Peach Bowl following the regular season. Davis improved as a senior with 32 total tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks. His play helped Georgia win the National Championship this past season.
Following a dream season at Georgia, Davis is headed to the next level. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Jordan Davis Strengths
Davis is a huge defensive lineman. He is 6-foot-6 and 340 pounds, which makes him the biggest interior defensive lineman in the class. With his size comes solid length, which helps him be disruptive. His size, especially because he moves decently well for how big he is, is ideal for a nose tackle at the NFL level.
Whether it is a pass play or a run play, Davis requires a double team. If he is blocked by just one person he will push them right back into the backfield. He can even beat double teams when they come. At the very least, he can take on multiple blockers to free up other players to make a play. His ability to blow up plays and take on multiple blockers can change a game entirely.
He is a great run defender and will definitely have a role on first and second downs. As mentioned, his ability to take on multiple blocks lets other players roam free to get the ball carrier. He also can push linemen backwards, which doesn’t allow the running back to get any running room. Davis isn’t the type of player who will be great in pursuit of a ball carrier, but he will make tackles on players who come nearby him.
Jordan Davis Weaknesses
At Georgia, Davis didn’t play a lot of their snaps. Georgia had a very deep defensive line and they were afforded the opportunity to rotate guys in and out. Whether he has the ability to stay on the field for long drives is a question.
One of the reasons that Davis was pulled off the field was that he doesn’t offer a lot as a pass rusher. He can draw some double teams to help and can push the pocket, but he rarely gets to the quarterback. Teams drafting Davis, should see him as a valuable run defender who needs to develop in order to be a three-down player.
Davis doesn’t get a good jump at the snap of the ball and has average quickness. He moves well for his size, but in comparison to other defensive tackles, he is not that fast. His ability to be disruptive comes from his strength rather than his athleticism.
