Week 6 came and went, and it was the second best week of the season for the New York Jets. They currently sit at 1-4, and it has so far been, to say the least, hard to watch. Reminder, this is a rebuild, and there is no way they were ever going to contend this year. This team will take time to come together, and hopefully the Bye week has helped a lot. Here is the New York Jets Week 7 Preview: New England Patriots.
The Jets
The Jets, as mentioned before, are coming off a bye week. The previous week, they lost to the Atlanta Falcons in London in extremely disappointing fashion. Apparently, according to Corey Davis, a lot has been worked out this week offensively. This statement has the same vibes as when Mike LaFleur says someone has a good week of practice, but hopefully, it translates to the field.
The Jets play the Patriots and Bill Belichick, who completely shut down the Jets offense in week 2. Zach Wilson will need to improve his first quarter play, or the Jets will have another rough week. The defense needs to step up, and that may be a little tougher this week as C.J. Mosley might not play. Marcus Maye returns, which should actually benefit them greatly.
Hopefully, Elijah Moore gets involved this week, and the offense, in general, looks better. The Patriots pass rush isn’t actually too great, but the offensive line for the Jets needs to continue to play as well as it has in weeks past.
The Patriots
The New England Patriots are coming off a loss in a thriller to the Dallas Cowboys. Their defense looked vulnerable, but they also let up 35 points to one of the best offenses in the NFL. The Jets are nowhere near that, but maybe over the bye week, they may have worked some things out like Corey Davis mentioned.
Mac Jones has actually looked decent, and the Jets will need to put some pressure on him this week. The Jets’ defensive line was really inconsistent against the Falcons, and they have one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. The Patriots’ offensive line has been pretty banged up, and they get a couple of key pieces back this week. Shaq Mason is still limited in practice, and it will be huge if he ends up not playing.
The Jets generate a lot of pressure in the middle of the line, and if they are able to take advantage of some weaker players starting, they may be able to take over the game as they did against the Tennessee Titans.
Conclusion
This is a big week for the Jets, and they need to show any improvement coming off of a week off. If they aren’t able to, there might be some serious questions brought up about this coaching staff. And fair questions those would be. There is no beating around the bush this time. This has been the Week 7 Preview for the New York Jets.
