The Eagles will be traveling to Dallas this coming Monday for a showdown with the Dallas Cowboys. This is an important game for the Eagles as this is their first game within the NFC East Division. Both teams are coming into this game with a one and one record. The Eagles beat the Falcons in week one and lost to the San Francisco 49ers last week. The Cowboys, on the other hand, lost to the Buccaneers in week one and won against the Chargers last week in a thrilling game. This game will be a test for the Eagles as it will give us an understanding of how the Eagles will do against the predicted front-runner in their division. This article will give a game preview for the Philadelphia Eagles game against the Dallas Cowboys.
What Jalen Hurts needs to do to win
Jalen Hurts has looked good during his last two starts for the Eagles. The Eagles quarterback has 454 yards total this season and three touchdowns. He has also avoided turnovers as he has no interceptions yet on the season. He will need to find a way to provide the Eagles with points in this game. Philadelphia scored 11 points in their game against the 49ers. The Eagles will need more than 11 points to defeat Dak Prescott and the weapons surrounding him on offense. The Eagles can do this by trying to take deep shots every once in a while. Hurts has explosive receivers and it worked once last week with that long pass to Quez Watkins.
Hurts also may want to utilize Kenneth Gainwell more in the passing game. He has great hands and is speedy and elusive enough to gain some yards after the catch. The final thing hurts need to do is to utilize his mobility out of the pocket and extend passing plays more rather than scrambling. This could give the receivers more of an opportunity to get open.
Get Zach Ertz involved
The Eagles have one of the most talented tight ends in the league in Zach Ertz but yet he only catches one or two balls a game. He had two receptions for 34 yards against the Falcons and one reception for six yards against San Francisco.
The offensive coordinator needs to find some plays that get Ertz Involved in the offense. He is a difference-maker and can win games for this team. It would be nice to see Ertz get more Targets in this game against Dallas. It would give the Cowboys another guy to worry about, which in turn could open up other receivers.
The Defense needs to keep playing well
The Eagles defense is second in the NFL in points allowed. They held the Falcons to six points and the 49ers to 17. They need to keep this trend going against Dallas, to give the offense a chance in this game. The defense also needs to find a way to keep Ezekiel Elliot bottled up, if he rushes for 100 yards during this game then the Eagles will be in trouble of dropping this game against the Cowboys. If the Eagles do this then it will force Prescott to throw more which in turn might lead to more mistakes. Pressure also needs to be applied to Prescott to make him as uncomfortable in the pocket as possible. This will lead to opportunities to put the cowboys behind the chains and to force Prescott into some bad passes.
Overall the Eagles should have a good chance at beating the Cowboys and gaining an edge in the NFC East. They have shown that they have the ability to control games and to keep games close so they have the best possibility of winning. This concludes the Philadelphia Eagles game preview for this week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
