Dignitas secured a spot in the upper bracket of the LCS Summer Split playoffs in the sixth seed with a win over CLG this past weekend.
Heading into the weekend, Dignitas sat only one game ahead of seventh-place Immortals. A number of scenarios could have happened for the black and yellow to secure the higher seed and luckily for them, it happened quite early in the week.
Securing the Seed
After Immortals lost their game to Team Liquid on Friday, Dignitas needed only to win their game against CLG to take the two-game lead and fully secure the spot. That they did and in pretty convincing fashion partly due to the horrendous play from CLG.
Regardless of that, Dignitas still showed great signs of strength across the board proving that they will not roll over come playoff time.
Their Bot Lane of Zaqueri “Aphromoo” Black and Toàn “Neo” Trần is still one of the best in the league especially when it comes to the early game as they lead their positions in kills and assists at 15 minutes. David “Yusui” Bloomquist is becoming more and more comfortable in-game and his champion pool in the Mid Lane is really a plus for the team with their unorthodox playstyle. Jungler Matthew “Akaadian” Higginbotham is fitting right back into the LCS as if he has never left and his finals experience will prove to be beneficial for the team. And Top Laner Aaron “FakeGod” Lee is becoming a rock for the team especially on his comfort picks of Gnar and Renekton.
Understanding their Situation
Going into the weekend, Dignitas were five games behind Team Liquid meaning that once the sixth seed was secured, the rest of DIG’s games wouldn’t mean anything for them. Knowing this, the team used their remaining games, at least against Cloud 9, to try new things.
In their game against TSM on Sunday both teams had fun as they swapped roles and picked unique champs because of the fact that the game meant nothing for either team in terms of standings. In their game against Cloud 9 however, they took things a little more seriously due to the fact that C9 was still fighting for seeding. Although the team ended up getting smothered by C9 it was good seeing them realizing the situation they were in and experimenting with new champs such as Zac and Aatrox.
Looking Ahead
At the end of the weekend, Evil Geniuses finished in the third seed meaning Dignitas will take them on in their first-round matchup. EG is currently one of the best teams in the LCS right now as they closed out the season on a 14-3 run. The exciting play of EG Mid Laner Daniele “Jiizuke” di Mauro and AD Carry Kyle “Danny” Sakamaki and the unorthodox playstyle of DIG will make for quite a good opening series. The two teams kick off the best of five matchup on Saturday at 5:00 pm.
