Fantasy football season is getting closer and closer. Every year millions of people play fantasy and with that comes the prep work to make sure that every draft is one that can produce a champion. Fantasy managers need to know about NFL depth charts, rookies coming into the league and which offenses could be dynamic. This article will go through and show what happened in an ESPN fantasy football mock draft and analyze the results. This is for a 10-team, standard scoring league. Here is the 2021 fantasy football mock draft: July edition.
Team 1
Team number one had the first pick, pick number 20, 21, etc. The teams following this one will follow the draft order.
Roster: QB Lamar Jackson, RB Christian McCaffrey, RB Joe Mixon, WR Justin Jefferson, WR Keenan Allen, TE Logan Thomas, WR Robert Woods, D/ST Rams, K Younghoe Koo, WR DeVonta Smith, RB Travis Etienne, TE Mike Gesicki, WR Nelson Agholor, RB Tony Pollard, QB Deshaun Watson, QB Taysom Hill
This team is banking on Lamar Jackson bouncing back, but even if he doesn’t quite make it back to his MVP-level, this team is solid. With McCaffrey and Mixon starting running backs are solid, but this team really lacks running back depth. Their first three receivers all pack a punch. If the team stays healthy, they could compete for the playoffs, but that’s a big if because of the lack of depth.
Team 2
Roster: QB Ryan Tannehill, RB Derrick Henry, RB Austin Ekeler, WR Allen Robinson, WR CeeDee Lamb, TE Noah Fant, RB Antonio Gibson, D/ST Steelers, K Tyler Bass, WR Courtland Sutton, WR Diontae Johnson, WR Jerry Jeudy, WR Deebo Samuel, RB Kenyan Drake, RB Zack Moss, QB Matt Stafford
Derrick Henry, Austin Ekeler and Antonio Gibson is about a good of a trio that was possible. Add them to wide receivers Allen Robinson and CeeDee Lamb, who both could be in store for big years with healthy and better quarterback play and the starting lineup is solid. Running back injuries could hurt this team, but wide receiver depth is nice. It is also a luxury to pick between Tannehill and Stafford every week at quarterback. Team 2 should compete for a playoff spot.
Team 3
Roster: QB Patrick Mahomes, RB Dalvin Cook, RB Cam Akers, WR A.J. Brown, WR Ja’Marr Chase, TE Kyle Pitts, RB David Montgomery, D/ST Browns, K Justin Tucker, WR Curtis Samuel, RB Melvin Gordon III, WR Jaylen Waddle, QB Joe Burrow, RB Michael Carter, WR T.Y. Hilton, TE Tyler Higbee
With Dalvin Cook, Patrick Mahomes and A.J. Brown, Team 3 has some star-power. Cam Akers and David Montgomery provide nice complementary starters. The WR2 spot will likely have to be played based on the matchup, but that doesn’t matter as much when Mahomes will carry the team most weeks. If Kyle Pitts lives up to the hype of his athletic profile, Team 3 could be the best in the league.
Team 4
Roster: QB Josh Allen, RB Ezekiel Elliot, RB J.K. Dobbins, WR Calvin Ridley, WR Adam Thielen, TE T.J. Hockenson, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, D/ST Ravens, K Greg Zuerlein, RB Javonte Williams, WR Antonio Brown, RB James Robinson, RB Trey Sermon, WR Mecole Hardman, WR Michael Pittman Jr., WR Russell Gage
It was a smart move to grab Josh Allen after his huge season. If Ezekiel Elliot can return to form and Dobbins can handle duties as the lead back in Baltimore the running back position will be a strong point. If they cant, there could be issues for Team 4. Calvin Ridley and Adam Thielen create a good one-two punch at wide receiver as well. This team will also be in the playoff hunt (isn’t that the beauty of 10-team leagues)?
Team 5
Roster: QB Kyler Murray, RB Saquon Barkley, RB Kareem Hunt, WR Stefon Diggs, WR Terry McLaurin, TE Robert Tonyan, WR Julio Jones, D/ST 49ers, K Graham Gano, WR Tyler Lockett, WR Will Fuller, WR Tyler Boyd, RB David Johnson, RB Ronald Jones, RB Devin Singletary, RB Tarik Cohen
Team 5 has some really nice players. Kyler Murray should be in store for another great year, Saquon Barkley is a star if he can stay healthy and Stefon Diggs just had the best season of his career. Jones also pairs with a great wide receiver core here in Terry McLaurin, Julio Jones and Tyler Lockett. The problem might be the lack of a good running back if one of their top two get hurt. From Kareem Hunt down to Tarik Cohen, all of the teams running backs outside of Barkley are in time-share situations. That will likely come back to get them in the end.
Team 6
Roster: QB Jalen Hurts, RB Aaron Jones, RB Raheem Mostert, WR DeAndre Hopkins, WR Amari Cooper, TE Darren Waller, WR Odell Beckham Jr., D/ST Bucs, K Harrison Butker, WR Cooper Kupp, WR Robby Anderson, RB Damien Harris, WR Jamison Crowder, RB Nyheim Hines, QB Trevor Lawrence, WR Parris Campbell
Jalen Hurts seems to be a favorite in fantasy because of his dual-threat abilities, but he is unproven. It was a smart move to pick up Trevor Lawrence just in case. The running back room has huge question marks. Will Aaron Jones be as productive if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t return? Will Raheem Mostert be able to get enough carries in the 49ers backfield to be an RB2? How about the same question for Damien Harris and Nyheim Hines. The Wide receivers are nice, but a trade will be needed for more running backs in order for this team to truly compete for a playoff spot.
Team 7
Roster: QB Dak Prescott, RB Alvin Kamara, RB Miles Sanders, WR Tyreek Hill, WR Mike Evans, TE Dallas Goedert, RB Myles Gaskin, D/ST Washington Football Team, K Matt Gay, WR D.J. Chark, WR Michael Gallup, RB Leonard Fournette, WR Corey Davis, TE Irv Smith Jr., WR DeVante Parker, RB Jamaal Williams
This is one of the most well-built teams in this mock draft. Team 7 has Dak Prescott, who was on a pace to set plenty of records before going down with an injury last season. Tyreek Hill and Mike Evans are a good combo at wide receiver. Michael Gallup, Corey Davis and DeVante Parker provide good depth. At running back Alvin Kamara will be a RB1, Miles Sanders will be close to that range and Myles Gaskin will get a lot of opportunities for the Dolphins. Team 7 has a solid roster capable of winning it all.
Team 8
Roster: QB Justin Herbert, RB Jonathan Taylor, RB Josh Jacobs, WR DK Metcalf, WR Chris Godwin, TE George Kittle, WR Brandon Aiyuk, D/ST Bills, K Jason Sanders, WR Chase Claypool, WR Marquise Brown, QB Tom Brady, WR Marvin Jones, RB A.J. Dillon, TE Rob Gronkowski, TE Evan Engram
Team 8 did not get any running back depth. That is just too risky. Jonathan Taylor is awesome, Josh Jacobs is a solid young back, but the only other back on the roster is A.J. Dillon. George Kittle and the wide receiver core is nice, but one injury to a running back and this team is toast. This team will have difficulty competing.
Team 9
Roster: QB Russel Wilson, RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB Chris Carson, WR Davante Adams, WR Kenny Golladay, TE Travis Kelce, RB Chase Edmonds, D/ST Colts, K Brandon McManus, WR Tee Higgins, RB Mike Davis, WR Laviska Shenault, WR Mike Williams, RB James Conner, RB Darrell Henderson, RB Gus Edwards
There is a lot of risk with this team. Will Davante Adams be as good without Aaron Rodgers? Can Daniel Jones get Kenny Golladay the ball enough? Will Clyde Edwards-Helaire take a step forward this year? Will Chris Carson return to form after injury? There is a lot of risk, but there is also a lot of reward to be had if things bounce Team 9’s way. At the very least, this team has good wide receiver and running back depth to go along with Travis Kelce and Russell Wilson. This team will compete for a playoff spot because of the depth and star-power of Kelce, but if a few of the things don’t go their way, they’ll miss the playoffs.
Team 10
Roster: QB Aaron Rodgers, RB Nick Chubb, RB Najee Harris, WR Michael Thomas, WR D.J. Moore, TE Mark Andrews, RB D’Andre Swift, D/ST Broncos, K Jason Myers, WR Brandin Cooks, WR Jarvis Landry, WR Henry Ruggs, WR Jalen Reagor, WR Cole Beasley, TE Jonnu Smith, TE Eric Ebron
This team is another one with a lot of risk. Simply put, if Aaron Rodgers holds out and doesn’t play, this team is kind of screwed. If he does, they’ll have a shot. Michael Thomas is also a risk without a stable quarterback. But ultimately the team will fall short because of their lack of running backs. Only three are on the roster. Bye weeks and injuries will ravage this team.
