31-year-old cornerback Rashaan Melvin has signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers will be the seventh different team, and tenth team overall for which Melvin has played since he was drafted by Baltimore in 2014.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.
Panthers are signing veteran free-agent cornerback Rashaan Melvin to a 1-year deal, per @DrewJRosenhaus. The Panthers will be Melvin’s 10th NFL team.

Melvin was a Detroit Lion in 2019, but did not have an NFL team in 2020. His latest stats included no interceptions, 11 passes defended and 68 combined tackles in 13 games (12 of them starts), in 2019. He actually only has four total interceptions in his six seasons of work.
The Panthers’ defense is incredibly young, and Melvin will be the oldest cornerback on the roster by six years. As their rebuild continues, veteran presence will become more and more important. Rashaan Melvin is a good start.
