Head coach Anthony Lynn has been fired by the Los Angeles Chargers. The team ended the 2020 season with a record of 7-9, by virtue of winning their last four games in a row.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news via Twitter on Monday morning.
Chargers fired Anthony Lynn this morning, per source. Two seasons ago, Lynn led the Chargers to a 12-4 record, then this year they finished 7-9, winning their last four games, giving him a 33-31 record in LA.
Chargers now become the sixth NFL team to have a head coach opening.

Lynn began his tenure in Los Angeles with a 9-7 season in 2017. In 2018, the team made a huge jump, finishing 12-4, tying the Kansas City Chiefs for the best record in the AFC West. Their season ended in the AFC Divisional Round with a loss to the Patriots.
After those highs, the Chargers dropped off under Lynn. They finished 2019 with a 5-11 record, the worst in the West. Phillip Rivers then departed the only team for which he had ever played, giving Tyrod Taylor and rookie Justin Herbert a chance to start.
Despite Herbert’s huge year, Los Angeles missed the playoffs, which spelled the death knell for the Lynn era. Los Angeles is now the sixth team with a head coaching vacancy after letting him go on “Black Monday.”
