Burfict was released on bond, shortly after his arrest.
The Infamous Linebacker, Vontaze Burfict
Burfict has been infamous for his repeated unnecessarily roughness violations.
One of Burfict’s most notable hits was on then, Steelers star wide receiver Antonio Brown during the 2016 playoff game against the Bengals. The hit resulted in a three-game suspension for Burfict along with a hefty $112,000 fine.
The hit from Burfict caused Brown to suffer a concussion. Sports bloggers speculate Brown’s outlandish behaviors after the 2016 season, was due to Burfict’s helmet to helmet hit.
The NFL had suspended Burfict in 2019 for repeated violations of unnecessary roughness. This suspension was the longest ever for an on-field incident.
“Vontaze has spent the entire offseason studying and learning the proper code of conduct for participation in the NFL. He has watched tape, talked with coaches and NFL experts, doing everything he can to conform his passionate play to the rules of the NFL. This is a serious issue not only for Vontaze but all players, and he is serious about doing things the right way and being a leader in playing football the right way,” Burfict’s agent, Peter Schaffer, said in a message posted by NFL Network reporter, Tom Pelissero.
By the time of this previous offseason, Burfict became a free agent, cutting ties with the Raiders.
