Now that the Spring Split is over, teams are starting to make their moves to get ready for spring. No matter how well a team performed, there is always room for improvement. After taking a look at the bottom 3 teams last week, this week’s article continues to climb the table.
Dominus Esports
Dominus had a rough start to their 2020. After having a decent split last Summer and picking up Xiye, many fans were hyped for the Spring Split. However, it seems like the team that had a good performance last Summer didn’t return to the rift in 2020. The team went 8:3 in the first 5 weeks of the LPL, as they swapped Xiye in and out of the team. While Xiaowei had better synergy with roster, he was also a weak point, resulting in a much weaker team overall. After weeks of going back and forth, the team settled with Xiye, and towards the end of the split, Dominus looked much better. Unfortunately for them, the LPL has many top tier teams, and to break away from mediocrity, their bot lane, Gala specifically, must be looked at. While Gala is another one of the legacy SinoDragon players on the team, he hasn’t been performing well. He consistently gets caught in rotation, costing his team the fight and possibly the game. This has also been a constant issue that has plagued him for the entire split. Dominus need a more stable bot lane if they want any hope to make it into playoffs next split.
Rogue Warriors
Rogue Warriors are another team that had a poor start to their split but ended up doing well towards the end. After having a below-average performance last summer, Rogue brought in two new mid laners and a new support. Rogue Warriors’ problem now is their in-game macro and shot-calling. They have two different mid laners and two different top laner, each having their own champion picks and styles of gameplay. Rogue Warriors are all over the place, but can’t seem to focus on what their objective is to win the game. This is possibly due to the lack of an in-game leader. Their most experienced player is Ley, but he has limited experience as a starting support in the LPL. The Warriors also rely on certain champion picks, especially ZWuji, who has struggled on the Miss Fortune and the Senna. While these are smaller issues and are much easier to repair, you must take into consideration the rest of the league. 1 Match win kept 5 teams out of playoffs, including Rogue Warriors. If some of these issues had been addressed soon, maybe they could have made playoffs. Moving into Summer, the Warriors have a good shot of making it into playoffs. Hopefully, by then, these issues are nothing but past ghosts.
OMG
Spring 2020 is going to leave a mark on many OMG fans. After two rough years, Smlz brought the hype back to the team. OMG would consistently beat bottom-half teams, but lose to the top tier ones. It all came down to their last match versus World Elite, a team right below them. After winning game one versus WE, OMG fell two games in a row and were once again, out of playoffs. Even though Smlz had a great split, and Icon put on a performance worthy of his peak days, it still wasn’t enough. Cold continues to be a question mark, while H4cker is unreliable at best. After being so close to breaking into the top of the table, OMG have to look back and see what they could have changed. With many LDL supports having massive performances during Spring, maybe the likes of L7 or Zhuo would be a good fit. And when it comes to junglers, the LDL is an ocean of talent. From young rookies to talented veterans, there is no lack of junglers in the LDL. Magic, from team WE Academy, would fit like a glove around OMG. His veteran status also allows you to bring in another rookie, possibly in the support position.
And that concludes the second batch of teams. Come back next week, when there will be a look at the last 3 teams that fell just short of playoffs.
