NFL week 11 is here and football is entering the midseason. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 11 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from ESPN as of Thursday morning)
Last week: 4-8-1, Overall: 71-74-2
Thursday Night
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns (-3)
The Steelers finally have put together a great defense, which will show up on Thursday night. Cleveland hasn’t shown they can really move the ball well all season, especially on a short week against a solid defense.
Pick: Steelers
Sunday Afternoon
Dallas Cowboys (-7) at Detroit Lions
There is no spread on this game, while the Lions figure out if Matthew Stafford will be able to play in this game. Whether he plays or not, Dallas can fix a lot of their issues by calling better plays. After watching the tape against the Vikings, the Cowboys should be able to fix their issues.
Pick: Cowboys
Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts (-2.5)
This is another game that does not have a spread yet because of Jacoby Brissett’s injury. WIth him or without him, the Colts will drop this one to the Jags. Jacksonville gets Nick Foles back and their defense has a good pass rush, which should limit what the Colts can do offensively.
Pick: Jags
Buffalo Bills (-6) at Miami Dolphins
Miami is playing better football, but the Bills have a great defense and have more to play for. The Bills should be able to score some points on Miami on the road to cover the spread.
Pick: Bills
Denver Broncos at Minnesota Vikings (-10.5)
Brandon Allen will be starting this game on the road for the Broncos. He played decently in his first start, but the Vikings are on a roll. Minnesota will be able to run the ball, then attack the Broncos downfield to cover.
Pick: Vikings
New Orleans Saints (-5.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Saints struggled this week against the Falcons. They’ll have to find a way to get back on track and protect Drew Brees, who took a beating. Tampa Bay may not be able to win, but Jameis Winston is an expert at keeping things close.
Pick: Bucs
New York Jets at Washington Redskins (-1.5)
Two of the NFL’s worst teams will meet up in Washington. Because they are at home the Redskins are favored. Both teams are 3-6 against the spread this year, but the Redskins are at home and don’t have a quarterback that is seeing ghosts recently.
Pick: Redskins
Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers (-5.5)
Atlanta played very well against the Saints last week and no one knows where it came from. The Panthers defense should be able to limit what the Falcons do on offense. Carolina lost last week, but were close to beating the Packers at Lambeau.
Pick: Panthers
Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens (-4)
The Ravens are on fire right now, specifically Lamar Jackson. He can throw and when all else fails, he and Mark Ingram can get work done on the ground. Without J.J. Watt and JaDeveon Clowney, the Texans won’t be able to get pressure, especially because their secondary is incapable of getting coverage sacks.
Pick: Ravens
Sunday Evening
Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers (-10.5)
Arizona knows how to keep games close. They are 7-3 against the spread this season. San Francisco is coming off of a short week and an emotional loss. They’ll likely win, but the Cardinals will keep it close.
Pick: Cardinals
Cincinnati Bengals at Oakland Raiders (-10.5)
With the Bengals starting a rookie quarterback and having no wins on the season. There is no reason to pick them in this game. They will also be on the road, making things worse. The Raiders will win big.
Pick: Raiders
New England Patriots (-3.5) at Philadelphia Eagles
Tom Brady will be looking forward to this matchup. The Eagles don’t have a great secondary and Brady will light them up. They’ll cover on the road.
Pick: Patriots
Sunday Night
Chicago Bears at Los Angeles Rams (-6.5)
The Rams are struggling, but the Bears have an anemic offense. Jared Goff can lead the Rams to victory, while Mitch Trubisky may not be able to keep up with the way he has played this season.
Pick: Rams
Monday Night
Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers (-3.5) (Game in Mexico City)
The Chiefs are coming off of a tough loss to the Titans, while the Chargers look good one week and bad the next. Kansas City had to travel to Tennessee and now Mexico City. Philip Rivers will at least keep it close if not lead the Chargers to a win.
Pick: Chargers
