As time goes on, it appears more and more of the Riot crew working on Wild Rift are leaving. In recent news, Game Director Jared Berbach left the company.
“After just short of 4 years at @riotgames, it’s time for me to embark on the next chapter of my career! Unfortunately, like many others throughout the games industry in 2023, my role was affected by a reduction in force…” Jared Berbach shared on Twitter.
Jared Berbach joined the Wild Rift crew around a year ago, leading many aspects of the game’s development. It’s unclear as to exactly why he left exactly. From the wording, it appears Riot laid him off. Either that, or the job position became difficult to manage due to, and this is his phrasing, “a reduction in force.”

His departure arguably speaks volumes towards the state of the game’s future. Laying off the Game Director, or even the game director leaving due to other lay offs, showcases Wild Rift’s struggle. It’s rather clealry not doing well financially.
Even Leo Faria, the head of Esports, left the game to work on Valorant. And the entire community knows exactly what the state of the Wild Rift esports is now.
With the Game Director now leaving, one can argue that the game state may very realistically decline.
Wild Rift hasn’t been the best game to play. Many argue the gameplay cycle has become stale — especially when compared to Wild Rift’s initial release. Balance is becoming far harder to achieve, in game behavior isn’t being corrected, and the Wild Pass alongside other in game events seem more lackluster than before.
Though the game likely won’t die, it appears Wild Rift’s growth and improvement as a whole will come at a snail’s pace.
