Best Starfield Companion
From ship management to space exploration and combat, the companions players choose in Starfield can play an important role in these aspects of the game. While some are proficient in one category, some characters can actually cover a broad area with their assigned traits. Two characters to be exact:
Sarah Morgan
Leader of Constellation, Sarah Morgan has a strong sense of morality and empathy and comes with the following perks:
- Astrodynamics ++++
- Lasers +++
- Leadership ++
- Botany +
Whether dealing with combat either on the ground or off in space Sarha’s expertise will become a much-needed advantage. Sarah shines the most with her 4 stars in Astrodynamics and a 3-star rank in lasers. As an added bonus she’s effective in combat and grants additional resources from plants. She’s the perfect explorer. Sarah can be recruited after completing The Old Neighborhood mission.
Sam Coe
Member of the Freestar Collective Sam Coe has a strong sense of justice. Just like Sarah, Sam is one of the best companions to recruit for the team. With a 4-star rank in piloting and 3 stars for rifle certification, combat and exploration in Starfield just got easier with him on the team. The extra cargo space and rare materials are just the cherry on top. Complete the ‘Empty Nest’ mission to have Sam join as a permanent companion.
- Piloting ++++
- Rifle Certification +++
- Payloads ++
- Geology +
Starfield Combat Companions
Moving onto the lower tier, we have the companions who are one-trick teammates. While these companions are great at combat it depends on what situation players may find themselves in.
Andreja
Andreja is a cryptic person who likes to be mysterious. She’s also a great companion to have if stealth is a key factor in a gamer’s playthrough. Even if not, she comes with perks boosting the player’s and the ship’s enemy weapons damage. Additionally, she’s great for pickpocketing. As mentioned previously Andreja is actually useful, it just depends on the playstyle. Complete the Constellation mission ‘Into The Unknown’ and bring Andreja back from Tau Ceti 2 to make her a permanent companion.
- Stealth ++++
- Particle Beams +++
- Energy Weapon Systems ++
- Theft +
Marika Boros
Marika is one of the companions players can recruit at spaceports. She’s a shotgun-for-hire and a welcome addition to any particle beam-heavy ship. She also excels heavily with on-the-ground combat making her one of the best hireable companions in Starfield. Marika can be hired from The Viewport in New Atlantis
- Shotgun Certification (Rank 1)
- Ballistics (Rank 2)
- Particle Beam Weapon Systems (Rank 1)
Barrett
Barrett is the fun and easygoing companion of the Constellation. He’s excellent at anything that regards ship management, from repairs to the combat lasers. Besides that, Barret doesn’t really have skills that come in handy. While it’s nice to do a little more damage to robots if there are none to be found then the perk is deemed worthless. Gastronomy helps craft specialty food and drinks but that doesn’t even come close as a game changer as food and meds can be practically found anywhere. Rescue Barret from the Crimson Fleet to make him a companion.
- Starship Engineering ++++
- Particle Beam Weapon Systems +++
- Robotics ++
- Gastronomy +
Starfield Outpost Companions
Heller
- Geology (Rank 1)
- Outpost Engineering (Rank 3)
Lin
- Demolitions: (Rank 1)
- Outpost Management: (Rank 3)
With both Lin and Heller being Argos miners, they are the best companions to have for outpost management. Heller’s Outpost Engineering allows for better modules, and Lin specializes in Outpost Management
