Some NBA teams boast logos that are considered classics by some. For example, The Lakers and Celtics have logos revered by many as greats. But in this list, three other logos are featured. More than that, explanations are provided as to why they are so great.
Utah Jazz
The Jazz’s logo is a very simple, yet elegant. Those are types of designs that are the best: Simple yet effective. And the Jazz’s logo is a perfect example.
First of all, the color of the words “Utah Jazz” are a somewhat deep color. With that in mind, a way to balance that is having some color variation.
With that, comes what makes this logo so great: The green and yellow in the basketball of the ‘J’ in Jazz.
There is a simple acronym taught in basic design lessons: CRAP. That is contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. The contrast of the colors in the basketball are perfect deviations from the rest of the logo.
To top it all off, the font of the words give a vibe of jazz music.
Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks’ logo history is plagued with bad colors and designs. So when the team changed to its current logo in 2015, it was good news. Not only for the colors, which are nice considering brown and green are tough colors to work with.
But what makes the logo is the buck in the middle of it. There is a basketball shape in its antlers for crying out loud. How cool is that?
More than that, the buck looks ready to avenge Bambi’s dead friends and relatives. It really makes the team’s “Fear the Deer” mantra pop and stand out even more.
Good job, Milwaukee.
New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans did an amazing job rebranding itself in 2013. People mocked the “Pelicans” name, but the logo makes up for it. Like the buck, the pelican looks menacing and like it is ready to strike.
But what makes this logo is the details and colors. Having two or three colors featured is the norm with design, and having more can be a mess. But the Pelicans’ logo has four colors featured and works beautifully.
Not much more can be said than the fact that the logo is just beautiful. The font gives off a New Orleans feeling.
And, the cherry on top, is the fleur de lis on top of the logo.
All around, a wonderful design that makes a pretty dysfunctional team look good, at least in one way.
