The Miami Beach Bowl pits the Central Michigan Chippewas against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Because this game is on by itself at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, the players will get a chance to be paid attention to in full by NFL scouts. This game doesn’t have a lot of draft prospects in it, but there are some to note. Here are the prospects to watch from this game:
Central Michigan Chippewas
Cooper Rush, QB
Projected Draft Round: seventh round-undrafted free agent
Rush’s draft stock has dropped after this season, when his stats dropped significantly. In their game against Oklahoma State he produced 368 passing yards and four touchdowns, which shows he has the potential to play well against decent college competition. He didn’t play well against Western Michigan, the best team in the MAC, proving that he doesn’t consistently play well against top competition. He threw way too many interceptions, 13, for the talent he played against in the MAC. Rush has good size at six foot three inches and 230 pounds which is a good frame for an NFL quarterback. He has decent arm strength and accuracy, meaning he has to show improvement in those areas to make an NFL team. His football intelligence is good, so he can ace the NFL Combine interviews.
Tulsa Golden Hurricane
Keevan Lucas, WR
Projected Draft Round: seventh round-undrafted free agent
At five foot ten inches tall and 195 pounds, Lucas looks like he can be successful as an outside receiver and in the slot, making him appealing to NFL teams. He has had great production in his college career when healthy, with over 3,000 receiving yards. He always seems to produce, with his worst game coming against Ohio State, which is to be expected, but he still had six receptions for 53 yards. Lucas is also an effective runner on jet sweeps, so getting the ball in his hands quickly will help him be productive. With 12 receiving touchdowns, he is a better red zone target than his size would indicate. As with most wide receivers who aren’t above six feet tall, he will have to display speed and quickness to improve his draft stock.
