The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Jackson Powers-Johnson 2024 NFL Draft Profile.
Jackson Powers-Johnson Background
Position: Interior Offensive Line
School:Â Oregon
Size:Â 6-foot-3, 320 pounds
Class:Â Junior
2023 stats:Â All-Pac-12 First Team
Powers-Johnson played just three seasons for Oregon, but got plenty of experience. Now he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a four-star recruit in the class of 2021, Powers-Johnson signed with Oregon out of Utah. He played a decent amount as a freshman, which included moving to the defensive side of the ball for the Alamo Bowl. During the 2022 season, Powers-Johnson broke into the starting lineup and played most of his snaps at right guard. In 2023, he moved to center and played amazing, earning First Team All-Pac-12. His play helped Oregon to have a 12-win season.
Following the 2023 season, Powers-Johnson declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick.
Jackson Powers-Johnson Strengths
Powers-Johnson has great athleticism for an interior offensive lineman. He is quick at the snap of the ball (whether he is snapping or not), getting a good jump on the play. Power-Johnson can get to the second level quickly. If used on screens or as a puller, he can be successful. He has nice flexibility and showed he could pick up things quickly after moving from offense to defense for the bowl game during his freshman season.
He has good power and a nasty demeanor. Powers-Johnson has strong hands that can really pack a punch. He is able to move defenders out of the way as a run blocker. As a pass blocker, he is able to handle power rushers on the interior, matching their strength with his.
His hand usage is very good, especially given his lack of relative experience. As mentioned, his hands are strong. He has both good hand timing and placement, which helps him start his blocks and then sustain them.
Jackson Powers-Johnson Weaknesses
He will not be the biggest interior lineman at 6-foot-3 and 320 pounds. While it does give him good leverage, the players he is going up against can sometimes be a decent amount bigger. He also has just average length and can struggle to block defenders with longer arms, as they can disengage his blocks.
Some parts of his footwork can be improved. Mainly, he has a tendency to stop his feet instead of continuing to keep them moving. He still makes the block, but more room can be created. Refining his footwork will help him, especially given the movement skills that he already uses.
His lack of experience can be seen in a few different ways. Powers-Johnson can sometimes get out of position when pass-blocking. He can also be a little late to see pressure coming, whether that’s through blitzing, stunts, or twists. More reps will help him in all areas.
