Tuesday night the Anaheim Ducks picked up a 4-2 home win over the Buffalo Sabres.
It was Jakob Silfverberg leading the way for the Ducks with two goals on the night. Adam Henrique scored for a third straight game and Cam Fowler added two assists to aid in the victory. Making his debut for the Ducks was defenseman Olen Zellweger who picked up his first NHL assist. Kyle Okposo and Jordan Greenway scored for the Sabres.
Early Tuesday afternoon the Buffalo Sabres official X account made a post entitled “Duck Season”, but it was Anaheim who would be laughing after the game.
Tuesday was Angels night at the Ducks game, and there might not have been Angels in the Outfield, but the Ducks had one on the ice in Jakob Silfverberg Tuesday.
Jakob Silfverberg scored early at the 5:51 mark giving the Ducks an early lead, something they have struggled with on their skid. Gudas and Fowler would pick up the assist.
The two teams would head to the locker room with Anaheim up 1-0 after one period.
Then in the second Anaheim picked up two insurance goals. The first a Sam Carrick tip in of an Olen Zellweger shot from the blue line three minutes into the second. Troy Terry would also assist on the goal, his third straight game recording a point.
67 seconds later Silfverberg would double his goal count for the season with his second goal of the night. Buffalo turned the puck over at center ice to which Mason McTavish scooped it up and skated into the slot and delivered the pass to Silfverberg for the score.
It would not be until there was six minutes left in the game the Sabres offense got going. Jordan Greenway would make it 3-1 when he tipped in a Rasumus Dahlin wrist shot. Three minutes later veteran Kyle Okposo would make it a one goal game with just under three minutes. Greenway picked up a second point with an assist.
Adam Henrique, who has had the hot stick for Anaheim, prevented any comebacks with an empty net goal.
This stops a three game skid for the Ducks. The offense looked improved as everyone got involved. The young ducklings continue to shine and be the team’s main story this time Olen Zellweger.
John Gibson also shined in net stopping 28 of 30 shots giving him second star honors on the night.
Anaheim will face Buffalo again on the road on February 19th to close out the season series.
Wednesday the Ducks boarded a plane for Dallas. Tonight they face the Stars who have won four of their last six games. The Stars currently cling to the third place spot in the Central Division putting them in the playoff hunt.
The young Ducks look to keep their momentum rolling. Troy Terry and Adam Henrique have really hit their stride this week and another good game from them as well as John Gibson in net would bring another win.
Anaheim is 1-8-0 since 2020 when facing Dallas including a pathetic 0-4 in Dallas. The Stars have had the Ducks number the last few seasons.
You can catch the Ducks tonight at 8:00 P.M. EST, 5:00 P.M. PST on BSSW, BSSD, BSSC as well as NHL Power Play on ESPN +.
