Amir Albazi withdrew from his fight against former champion Brandon Moreno. The UFC scheduled the card for February 24, in Mexico City, Mexico. It wouldn’t have made much sense for Moreno, the first Mexican-born champion in UFC history to not be on the card. Thankfully, the promotion found a replacement for the injured Albazi. Title contender, Brandon Royval has stepped up to replace the injured Albazi. This is going to be the second time Moreno & Royval will have met inside the UFC octagon.
Why Does This Matchup Make Sense?
Royval and Moreno are both inside the top-5 of the flyweight division. Both of their last bouts ended in a loss to the current champion, Alexandre Pantoja. In 2020, Moreno finished Royval in the very first round by way of KO/TKO. This fight could be an opportunity for Royval to get revenge from his prior loss. This is also a huge opportunity for both fighters to end up in position for another title shot in the near future.
