I am a huge believer in Marcus Mariota. He is going to be a great NFL quarterback and showed a lot of flashes in his rookie season. The problem is he needs help around him. The Titans signed DeMarco Murray and drafted Heisman trophy winner, from Alabama, Derrick Henry. That should help take pressure off of the passing game. In the passing game though, Mariota needs more help. He completed 230 passes, but not a single wide receiver had more than 36 receptions. Their leading receiver was tight end Delanie Walker, who finished with 94 receptions, 1,088 yards and six touchdowns. They need a receiver on the outside to emerge as a threat for this offense to improve.
Defensively, the Titans ranked 27th in the NFL in points given up per game with 26.4. All they did to improve the defense is add linebacker Sean Spence. The Titans have begun to rebuild but with a defense that gives up nearly 30 points it will be hard to finish high in this division. A bad defense will strain a good offense. Until the Titans have some draft picks that turn into great NFL players, or they sign some great defensive players the Titans won’t improve defensively. It will be another tough year for Titan fans.
