Summer is often a time of relaxing, spending time with family, and religiously checking soccer jersey reveals for the upcoming season. Clubs either look to the past for inspiration or call on trends or artists when designing their upcoming jerseys. New kits either rally up the supporters or has them calling for new leadership if they do not like the shirt design. With most clubs having revealed what they will be playing in, TGH will rank the top five shirts for this upcoming Premier League season.
5. Newcastle Home
The return of the collar to Newcastle, which hasn’t featured one since the 1995-97 Adidas kit. The new shirt supplier Castore features a grandad collar and two white stripes on the front with a black stripe down the center. The buttons and collar will feature a light blue trim to match the Fun88 sponsor. The collar will stand out more compared to the 90s counterpart due to the white against black collar. A great homage to the legendary Newcastle teams a couple decades ago.
4. Tottenham Home
Sometimes simple is better and you can say exactly that with the Tottenham home shirt for this season. The shirt pays homage to the club’s first badge with a placement on the inner neck. The shirt will feature traditional colors – white and navy blue. There are no accent colors on the shirt, which will make it a special piece for the club’s 100th anniversary. This will be a popular kit among the supporters, as Nike have done with the yellow from last season.
3. Brighton Away
What a shirt this is! The new kit for Brighton introduces a clean, mint green, and black look. The sleeves showcase a distorted, trippy pattern which is an unique element for the away shirt. The best part about this kit is that it will stand out from the rest and definitely gets the attention. Well done, Brighton!
2. Manchester City Home
The new Manchester City home shirt is inspired by the famous 93:20 goal from the 2011-12 season that made Man City Premier League champions. Etihad Airways returns as the main shirt sponsor, despite talks that their agreement had come to an end. The shirt has a sky blue base with a white trim in the form of panels on the sides. The 93:20 on the inside collar calls back to Sergio Agüero’s famous goal against QPR in 2012. The “10” in the 20 is a different shade of color as it represents the Argentinian’s number.
1. Manchester United Home
Made by Adidas and featuring new Sponsor TeamViewer, the new home shirt for Manchester United tops the list. The new shirts clean look in “real red” and off-white and is the same red used the past season. This new home shirt is much different than previous years, and the only print or graphic on the shirt appears on the front, sleeves, and back. Inspired by the shirts of the 60s which were worn by legends like George Best and Bobby Charlton. The accents will be “cloud white” which is darker than white and will be used on the Adidas logo, shoulders, collar, and sleeve cuffs. This is a great shirt and will be a great one to have for all supporters.
