Team Dignitas has announced that former Flipsid3 Tactics player Maurice ‘Yukeo’ Weihs will replace Alexandre ‘Kaydop’ Courant, who left the team to join Renault Vitality.
In just over a year Yukeo has ascended from a relatively unknown G-League challenger to a starter for the most decorated Rocket League team in the game’s short history.
Yukeo Makes the Jump.
Yukeo led Flipsid3 Tactics to a second place in league play in season six and had quite the showing for the squad at the World Championships in Las Vegas. He joins the second place finisher at that tournament with the task of recreating the production of EU’s golden striker.
The young Austrian will join Pierre “Turbopolsa” Silfver and Jos “ViolentPanda” van Meurs in their quest to win four straight European championships.
“I am very proud to be able to represent Dignitas alongside ViolentPanda and Turbopolsa,” Yukeo said. “Though I have big shoes to fill, I’m fortunate to play and learn from multi-time world champions. I’ll put forth my absolute best efforts to help this team bring Dignitas another championship.”
Considering the shoes that Dignitas had to fill, this is about the best move that could have been made and is a pretty logical move for both parties. Dignitas replaces their star with a player who has yet to hit his ceiling and Yukeo partners with two of the game’s best.
The rise and fall of a Rocket League career can be very short. The meta evolves so quickly that one season a player can be on top of the world, and the next the player could be gone from the scene all together. It’s important to capitalize and grab a player on the rise and Dignitas has done just that.
Where Does Flipsid3 Head from Here?
Red Reserve’s Jack ‘Speed’ Packwood-Clarke will play for Flipsid3 during WSOE 4 and will be basically trying out for his spot.
Speed led a scrappy Red Reserve team to promotion from the Rival Series and has shown a lot of potential. He could be a suitable third player for the team, but is a drop off from Yukeo.
The issue is that almost every other team in the European region has made an upgrade this off season. Kaydop’s move to Vitality has been well documented. Mousesports added Linus ‘al0t’ Möllergren. We Dem Girlz has the security of a strong org like Team SoloMid. Recently promoted sqauds Savage! and Red Reserve will be looking to make a splash. Making the LAN playoffs will not be a cake walk.
Francesco ‘kuxir97’ Cinquemani is perhaps the most consistent player in the game’s history. If there’s a reason to continue to believe in Flipsid3, it’s him. The team’s success will depend on how well kuxir97 and David ‘Miztik’ Lawrie can mesh with their new teammate.
