While every team must have a good offense, the same can be said about its defense. When it comes to defensive operators in Rainbow Six Siege, you have to be prepared for whatever the enemy team might throw at you. Choosing the right defensive operator can help not only you, but your team succeed as well. Here are the best defenders in Rainbow Six Siege.

Castle
Castle is an operator that every team on defense should have. Equipped with Armor Panels, Castle can make any defensive point feel like, well a castle. These panels are better than the regular wooden barricades as they are more resistant and require more damage to be destroyed. Putting these up on windows and significant doorways can slow enemies down.
Mute
At the start of every defensive phase, attackers have the opportunity to look for the bomb site. However, Mute can put a stop to all of that using his Signal Disrupter. These can make every electronic gadget in range malfunction and cause them to be disabled. Another good use for the Disrupter is that if you put them near reinforced walls, any enemy device that is placed on it won’t work either. There are plenty of other ways Mute’s Signal Disrupters come in handy, but those are the main features.
Kapkan
Kapkan is definitely an annoying operator to go up against when attacking. His Entry Denial Device can be placed along doorways and windows and explode on enemy contact. One singular blow can do a lot of damage to an enemy so if you want, you can put two at the same entry point if you feel daring.
Jäger
Enemies love to clear rooms out by using grenades or Fuze, but Jäger can put a stop to all of that. His Active Defense system can intercept grenades before they detonate, making them useless. Whenever you notice a pattern where the enemy team keeps picking Fuze on attack, pick Jäger. That’ll make them think twice.
Kaid
Kaid has the ability to shock two reinforced walls at once using his RTILA Electroclaw. Not only that but it can also shock multiple barbed wire and deployable shields as well. He’s perfect for keeping enemies at bay who love to hard breach and can also keep drones away from doorways. Even better, he also can electrify reinforced hatches preventing enemies from dropping in from above.
Valkyrie
You can never have too many cameras, well unless you’re Valkyrie. But even then the more the merrier. Valkyrie has Black Eye cameras which gives your team additional cameras at your disposal to spot and ping enemies. She can throw them anywhere she wants meaning you can have the sneakiest vantage point on enemies. If you want to give your team intel and support them from even beyond the grave, Valkyrie is waiting for you.
Mozzie
The one thing Mozzie is good at is pulling a literal Uno reverse card on enemies. Using his Pest Launcher, Mozzie can hijack enemy drones and make them his. They function the same way as if you were on attack so you can spot enemies with ease while on defense. Just make sure that after you capture one let your team know. Even though the friendly drones have a white highlight on them, teammates still love shooting them.
Aruni
Aruni is an operator that excels at not noy only keeping gadgets out, but enemies as well. With her Surya Gate, Aruni can spawn lars on walls or doorways that enemies and their gadgets can’t pass through. While drones are small enough to get through, it doesn’t make a difference if the enemy can’t. A Surya Gate can only be destroyed once a projectile goes through it, but it can be reactivated after a cooldown period is up.
Azami
Azami is all about providing cover and covering up holes for her team. Using her Kiba Barriers, Azami can throw a device on a surface that creates a bulletproof barrier. They can either be used to create cover your your team or to block out enemies. The versatility of these barriers alone makes Azami a must-have for any defensive team.
Thunderbird
Thunderbird is all about supporting her teammates in their time of need. Whether they need health or a revival, she has them covered. Using her Kóna Stations she can heal teammates that are within proximity of the station. Whenever allies go down they can also revive themselves at these stations. They heal for a good amount and she has three so there’s plenty to go around.
