The 2022 PUBG Nations Cup, previously planned to be in Europe, will potentially be heading to Southeast Asia with Thailand being the likely destination now according to sources familiar with The Game Haus. This would be the first PUBG LAN in Southeast Asia since the 2019 MET Asia Series: PUBG Classic.
Details
Back on March 1, sources told The Game Haus that the 2022 PUBG Nations Cup was destined for Europe. At the same time, those sources did indicate that Southeast Asia was the backup region in case the situation in Europe deteriorated. That would be the first PUBG LAN in Southeast Asia since the 2019 MET Asia Series: PUBG Classic.
That report came a week after the Russia Invasion on Ukraine. In the weeks since, one of the many things that changed as a result of the Russo-Ukrainian War is the PUBG Nations Cup. With mounting restrictions and political discourse, the event has appeared to become too complicated to host in Europe.
Instead, the Southeast Asian backup plan seems to be heading into full effect. Sources indicated that the event will end up in Thailand. With the Southeast Asian scene growing over the past few years, this event could be a major stepping stone in growing the region. While the venue remains unknown, the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre hosted the MET Asia Series: PUBG Classic back in 2019. The same venue could very well host PNC this time.
Thai coaches have done little to quell the rumblings as well, with one source indicating that potential coaches for the Thai team have been cryptic hints on social media regarding the venue and their lack of need for a visa. It could just be grade A level bait, but all the information seems to point to this possibly being the case.
Team Russia Status
The current status of the potential participation of the defending champions Team Russia is unclear at this current time. According to sources, the situation is best described as “not bright, but not dark”. A solution similar to the one of the Russian Olympians was hinted at though. That would mean the players could still participate, just not under the Russian flag.
There is no guarantee that Team Russia, in one form or another, will be present at PNC when the dust settles. That situation is one that will continue to evolve.
PNC Rumor: Mixed Roster?
One thing a source mentioned is that there could be a new team heading to PNC. There apparently have been rumblings surrounding potentially a mixed EU roster for this year’s PNC. The goal of this would be to allow some of the players who can not field a team of four from the same country to play in the event. While the likelihood of it occurring is unknown, the mention of it serves as an interesting conversation point.
