The Overwatch Halloween Terror event is back for 2021 and as per usual it will likely come with the normal amount of skins and the usual game mode. This is the sixth year of the event and while not much has changed, the event is still one of the most anticipated for the Overwatch community. Now the question becomes, when does the Overwatch Halloween Terror 2021 event start and end?

Last year the event was announced during the Overwatch League Grand Finals. They not only showed off the dates but some improvements to the main game mode, Junkenstein’s Revenge. This year it would be surprising for them to show this during the Grand Finals but it is certainly possible.
When looking at events, it is not hard to figure out around the date when these events will start and when they will end. Continuing with how most of the Overwatch events are, this one will last three weeks. Meaning that it will likely end in early November.
As for the start, it will likely be in early October. The most likely dates for the Overwatch Halloween Terror 2021 event to start are either Monday, October 11 or Tuesday, October 12.
It seems as though the TGH prediction was correct, this event will run from October 12 to November 2.
During this time, players will have the chance to play games and earn three skins. Last year these skins were one for Brigitte, Echo and Sombra. This year is just about anyone’s guess as the Overwatch team has been certainly changing things up with their skins.
The interesting part will be to see if they make any other changes. Will Junkenstein’s Revenge be the same as it has been? Will they potentially add another game mode? The answers to these questions will likely be yes and no respectively. That is because the Overwatch team is hopefully working diligently on Overwatch 2 to make it the best game it can be.
Junkenstein’s Revenge
This has been one of the most prominent game modes in Overwatch history. Since the day it came out, fans have loved it. This is just as much because of it being a popular holiday as the game mode just being a blast.
Normally players are able to choose from at least the heroes getting skins in the latest Overwatch Halloween Terror 2021 event. This gives them an opportunity to not only play the champions but use the skins that they may have just received. For many players it is a good way to show off their skins and their skills.
From there, the game has four players and they fight against Junkenstein (Junkrat) and his monsters in different waves. The waves and Junkenstein try to break down the gate that the four heores are trying to defend. As normal in these game modes, the waves get harder as the game goes along. This all continues on until either the players win by holding off the waves or Junkenstein breaks down the door and his minions and monsters are able to go terrorize the world.
Junkernstein’s Revenge was one of, if not the first, game mode to be more PVE instead of PVP like the rest of Overwatch has been. It certainly has lead to other events that have worked in a similar way and may have had an effect on Overwatch 2.
Overwatch 2?
There will be many who wonder if game modes like Junkenstein’s Revenge will make their way over to Overwatch 2? All indicators are that Overwatch 2 will be coming out sometime next year. The Overwatch League will be using an early edition of the game when their 2022 season starts next April. It is much more than just a second version of Overwatch, it seems as though it may feel like a relatively new game.
Not only will it be 5v5 but it will also have more of a story mode than the original Overwatch had. This means that modes like Junkernstein’s Revenge may not stand out as much considering PVE will be a normal part of the new game.
The one known part is that all of the skins from Overwatch original will carry over with player’s accounts to Overwatch 2. That means that any skins bought now are safe for the next game.
Last Junkenstein Ever?
It is very likely that this will not be the last Junkenstein. Not only because it is a popular mode, but it would seem as though the dev team will still want to keep something for Halloween as an event. Events have been the only thing keeping Overwatch 2 from being completely stale. They have continued to bring out incredible skins along with normally solid game modes ranging from Junkenstein’s Revenge to Lucioball.
If anything, they could be adding more modes in the future considering this game will likely have more AI opponents for the story mode than ever before.
Fans who are worried that Overwatch 2 may make them miss any of their events should not worry about it moving forward. Junkenstein’s Revenge may be the last one on original Overwatch but it certainly will not be the last one ever. They have been keeping up their events for the past two to three years without extra content, why stop now?
