As week 1 of the Overwatch League approaches, it’s time to look at the matches the Washington Justice will be facing this week. Who will win, who to watch and why – this will all be covered in this weekly article series. The Justice only have one match this week.
New York Excelsior: 0-0-0
The New York Excelsior were a top team in Season 1 of the Overwatch League. Their team supports a strong tank and support core, especially with Seong-hyun “Jjonak” Bang and his insane Zenyatta play. Further to that, the NYXL have made some formidable pickups during the offseason with Yeon-oh “Fl0w3r” Hwang and Yeon-kwan “Nenne” Jeong. Adding these players to the already feared roster will definitely beef them up and make them a big challenge for the Justice as their first match. The Justice have their work cut out for them if they want to start their season by beating this team.
Prediction – NYXL wins 4-0
Even with the strongest scrim practice and synergy, it will be hard to say that the Justice come out of this matchup victorious. The NYXL have an existing team structure that they have not changed. Although the meta has shifted, the team will probably still have Jjonak on his signature Zenyatta, and Tae-hong “MekO” Kim on D.Va. This core will remain when the NYXL play GOATS.
Player to Watch – Joon-hwa “Janus” Song
It will be interesting to watch Joon-hwa “Janus” Song go up against his former teammate and fellow main tank, Dong-gyu “Mano” Kim. Particularly with the commentary surrounding who is the superior main tank in Season 1. Look out for the rivalry between these two teams as their main tanks go head-to-head.
