Montreal To Host New Academy Team
In partnership with Quebec-based Mirage Sport Électronique, Toronto Defiant’s parent organization OverActive Media announced today that Montreal will host their Academy team.
The Toronto Defiant’s spot in the Overwatch League guarantees them a slot in Contenders. Their Montreal team will be competing in North American Contenders and will be a part of the Eastern division.
“This is a huge step towards the democratization of esports in Quebec,” said Yannick Babin, President of MSE. This quote comes from an article by Dustin Steiner at Unikrn citing the organization’s press release.
In a step towards localization, the second stage of the team’s games will be held at Montreal’s own Esports Central Arena, a venue that is capable of seating 500 people.
More info will be released in the coming week in regards to the new team’s branding, name, and logo.
Thanks once again to Dustin Steiner.
