As of 8:00 PM EST on February 12th, the Shanghai Dragons made their move to save their season. Although rumored at 3:09 AM EST on the same day by @OWBeacon on Twitter, the confirmation of Youngjin “Gamsu” Noh transferring to Shanghai turned the Dragon’s season from questionable to phenomenal.

With Eui-Seok “Fearless” Lee’s departure last week due to medical reasons, the Shanghai Dragons held a void in the main tank role. Few in the Overwatch community could speculate a solid reason as to how the Dragons would progress into the season. Some thought that Yong-Jin “YOUNGJIN” Jin would go back to the main tank role as he did on previous teams, and others considered a dive composition with Joon-hwan “GuardiaN” Cho and Se-yeon “Geguri” Kim.
What does this mean?
Gamsu helped lead the Uprising to the third-best regular season record but lost to Philadelphia in the Quarterfinals. Gamsu’s role for the Uprising was as the main tank, which is exactly what Shanghai needed. Gamsu was also elected as an Atlantic All-Star last season, which proves that his abilities step up with the best in the OWL.
Partnered alongside Geguri, the Dragons now have a tank line at the level of Pan-seung “Fate” Koo and Indy “SPACE” Halpern on LA Valiant. Together on a team with Min-Sung “Diem” Bae, who has been predicted as Rookie of the Year in season 2, Shanghai has quickly placed themselves out of the bottom of the league.
What’s the catch?
As of right now, the transfer has not been reported to have any other players in the deal. The Dragons will look to improve upon a forgettable inaugural season, and so far they’ve made all the moves to prove that.
What do we expect?
It is unrealistic to say that the Dragons will have a perfect Stage 1 record, or even Week 1. Gamsu is joining the team about 50 hours before their first match versus the Hangzhou Spark. The chemistry hasn’t developed yet between Gamsu and the Dragons, but time will be their best friend. Expect an average record after Stage 1, but look for them to improve every stage thereafter.
In the wise words of Twitter user @giantcheeseman: Geguri and Gamsu = GG.
