The Shock were hoping to bounce back in Week Three after a tough loss to Vancouver. And boy, did they ever. The Shock only lost one map on their way to a comfortable 2-0 week, putting them in a good spot in the standings.
Hangzhou Spark (3-3)
The Spark are a dangerous team, but the Shock handled them like the professionals that they are. The victory was admittedly somewhat sloppy at times, but the Shock did eventually get their act together and really shove through. Hangzhou was admittedly still in a bit of a funk at the time, but the Shock’s performance in this game was still really impressive.
Washington Justice (0-4)
Well this was…a massacre. This match was all Shock aside from a relatively close round on Control. The Shock absolutely smashed the Justice in one of the most one sided OWL matches that has been played so far. There isn’t a whole lot to say here aside from pointing out that the Shock are now on the leaderboard for “Fastest map completions” thanks to this match.
Players of the Games: Matthew “Super” DeLisi and Jay “Sinatraa” Won
These two are being lumped together as the top players for both games. The reason is that it’s really hard to choose one over the other because their synergy is what makes them so strong. Super and Sinatraa have a unique playstyle that differentiates them from the rest of the league.
Many teams will try to keep both the Reinhardt and Zarya alive at all costs. The Shock, on the other hand, aren’t afraid to sacrifice Super if it means getting Sinatraa into position to go to town. This is obviously a risky playstyle, but the Shock can pull it off surprisingly well, and the synergy between these two is a big reason why.
Week 4 Preview
New York Excelsior (6-0)
This is absolutely the hardest test the Shock have faced all season. The Excelsior are the only team that hasn’t lost a game yet. Honestly, it isn’t hard to see why. This team absolutely tore the league to shreds last season, and the trend seems to be continuing here. The Shock can absolutely win this game if they play it right, but they will have to play flawlessly. The Shock have struggled to play flawlessly in the past, so unless this trend changes the Excelsior are looking good to go undefeated in the stage.
Excelsior Win 3-1
Paris Eternal (2-1)
Paris hasn’t actually played too many games yet, but what they have played has been pretty impressive. The loss to Atlanta didn’t look good, but this can be chalked up to Atlanta playing very well. Paris has proven that they can contend in a league that is better and stronger than ever. The Shock will have to play carefully here, but Paris definitely isn’t on the same level as the Excelsior. The Shock can absolutely win this game, but they should take Paris seriously.
Shock Win 3-1
Player to Watch: Grant “Moth” Espe
Moth is an absolute star, and he has been doing his normal brand of excellent play and shotcalling in season two. Main support players often fly under the radar in this meta as they are often relegated to Lucio duties. Keep an eye on Moth as he plays this week. He is immensely important to this squad, as his shotcalling is reportedly excellent, and his Lucio play is extremely good.
