
The 2023 Overwatch League offseason continues to be one of the craziest fans have seen in years. While player transfers are relatively expected, the Philadelphia Fusion had news that left fans with their jaw on the floor. On Friday December 30, the Philadelphia Fusion announced that they will be rebranding in 2023 and beyond to the Seoul Infernal. The team plans to stay in South Korea for the foreseeable future.
The news comes as a surprise to Overwatch League fans every where. The Philadelphia Fusion had been a relatively successful team with a strong fan following since the Inaugural Season. In the press release, the organization believes that the team will be best suited to continue to compete in Seoul, South Korea. The Philadelphia Fusion have been competing from South Korea for the past two years.

The Philadelphia Fusion are owned by Comcast-Spectacor, who also co-own the esports organization T1. T1 has found plenty of success across many titles, including League of Legends. The move to Seoul will ensure that the now Infernal have access to the T1 headquarters in Seoul.
The team will keep it’s current signed coaches and players, and continue to build out the roster for 2023.
The rebranding of the Philadelphia Fusions marks the second team to undergo a rebrand for 2023. The Paris Eternal moved to Vegas this offseason and have become the Vegas Eternal. For the time being these are the only two teams that have gone through this transformation, however there are a few more teams that could be potentially on the move.
