Stage 2, Week 3 of the 2019 Overwatch League season brought with it some of the more meme-worthy moments, a massive upset and, as always, some incredible plays. Will the historic hammer kill take the top spot, or will that honor be held for a slightly more honorable play? Find out, in this week’s Top 10 Plays from The Game Haus.
10: The First Ever Hammer Kill in the Overwatch League
Jeffrey “blasé” Tsang will go down in the history books as the first player to get a kill with Torbjorn’s hammer. And yes, it’s every bit as underwhelming as one might guess. At any rate, history deserves at least a spot on the top 10, right?
9: Erster’s Getting the Hang of These Top Plays
Last week, Joon “Erster” Jeong netted a full team kill on Tracer. While that’s a tough act to follow, this Junkrat play is not too shabby. Will he keep this level of play up next time he’s on stage?
8: IDK What Charge Were Thinking
These combos have been few and far between since Stage 1. Leave it to the Stage 1 maestros, Ho-jin “iDK” Park and Seong-Wook “Ria” Park, to put a spectacular one together for the Spark. Will this be the igniting spark they need to make the Stage 2 playoffs?
7: This Ark Sails With Threes
In his newly fitted Justice jersey, Yeonjoon “ArK” Hong has already begun to play at the caliber he did last season for the NYXL. This triple environmental kill on the Rialto bridge may leave the Excelsior wondering what could have been, especially after a loss to Atlanta.
6: Bdosin Saves The Spitfire
This play was talked about because of its precise timing on the Transcendence, but it goes much further than that. This healing keeps Jae-hee “Gesture” Hong and company alive long enough to outlive the EMP and turn the tides. In a closer series than the score signifies, this was a key moment.
5: “You shall not pass!” – Janus (probably)
This bait and switch Earthshatter is everything Justice fans have been wanting to see from Junhwa “Janus” Song. With the changes going on for Washington, hopefully, fans will see the aggressive main tank be better enabled to keep making these kinds of plays.
4: A Beautiful Swon Dive – 10/10
This… is not the sort of play the Overwatch League often displays. But, for a main tank and a team that has been ranked beneath the University of Waterloo in several power rankings, one would think they will take all of the Reinhardt pins on Pharah that Seong-won “Swon” Yoon can get.
3: Tobi Owns the Eichenwalde Bridge
In another game for the record books, Jin-mo “tobi” Yang just couldn’t stop booping people. Setting map and match records for environmental kills was bound to land him a top 10 play eventually, and this one was certainly that.
2: A Flashy Finnish Tactical Visor
When the Outlaws rarely decide to let Jiri “LiNkzr” Masalin out of his benched cage, magical things like this happen. If Houston keeps him on the bench, in spite of plays like this, they may just be sandbagging.
1: Up and Over, Lights out, Hammer Down
Last, and anything but least is this beautifully crafted EMP/Earthshatter combo from the Shanghai Dragons. Plays like this make these combos seem almost too easy. If Shanghai keeps making plays like these, they may be a very dangerous team down the stretch.
