Things continue to look grim for the highly anticipated Overwatch sequel.
Overwatch 2 sparked immense of amounts of excitement in it’s first showing back in 2019. OW2 was slated as the next big step of the Overwatch franchise, featuring a massive campaign mode and more heroes for competitive play. However 2020 greatly impeded any development for the game, leaving fans with doubts about the potential release date.
Then in 2021, the radio silence around Overwatch 2 came to an end. Newly promoted Game Lead Aaron Keller announced an extensive preview for Overwatch 2, featuring gameplay and new maps. The preview renewed hope and excitement for the sequel. Audiences were excited for the new features even though the player base is split about the move to 5v5. Overall, things started to look up for Overwatch 2.
That is until a rumor sprung up about the release time frame on August 7.
The Potential Delay
Prominent leaker “Metro_OW” on Twitter revealed a brutal rumor about the Overwatch release date. According to their source, the Overwatch 2 development has received some serious set backs. Because of the said set backs, the release for Overwatch 2 may not hit the 2022 deadline completely.
OW2 News
I've heard from multiple people close to my original source with OW2 that the development is taking longer than expected. From what I can gather a release in 2022 does not seem likely anymore. I hope this is false and I'm proven wrong.

If the leak proves to be true, the future of Overwatch would continue to remain in jeopardy. After multiple reports of Overwatch 2 facing massive hurdles, fans are growing increasingly concerned. Overwatch hasn’t seen many game updates due to the switch over to add more development to Overwatch 2.
As for the Overwatch League, teams are also in the dark regarding OW2. The plan is to have the professional league be played on Overwatch 2, but now it appears as though that won’t happen until 2023.
