Thanks to the sharp eyes of Twitter user @overfire_ru, a new Overwatch book listing has been spotted on Amazon. This is on the French Amazon site, and shows “Overwatch YA Novel # 2”. This book will focus on Ashe and McCree, the foundation of the Deadlock Gang, and should be an action-packed romp across the Southwest. Lyndsay Ely is the listed author, and the release date is June 1, 2021. The price at the moment is € 9.89 ($11.65).
Here is the translated description:
In the years after the Omnic Crisis, the American Southwest is ruled by vultures looking to profit off the chaos. The West is ripe for the taking, and Elizabeth Caledonia Ashe intends to write her name across it.
When Ashe is arrested yet again on the morning of her high school graduation, her aloof, old-money parents decide to disinherit her from the family fortune. To steal back what’s rightfully hers, Ashe teams up with her omnic butler, BOB, and local ruffian Jesse McCree for a series of heists, catapulting the trio into a game of fast money and dangerous alliances. Along the way, Ashe discovers that family isn’t just about blood. It’s about the people who’ve got your back when your back’s against the wall.
Full of high-octane chases and action-packed stand-offs, the second novel for Overwatch explores the founding of the Deadlock Gang and the origins of fan-favorite heroes Ashe and McCree.
A Familiar Road
The author Lyndsay Ely has experience writing about futuristic westerns. Her critically-acclaimed novel Gunslinger Girl is another young-adult novel about an Annie Oakley type, struggling to make it in a futuristic world ravaged by conflict. While Ashe is older than the gunslinger girl, the overall premise sounds similar and fits into the Overwatch world. The themes of right vs wrong and the shades of gray in-between, finding community, and discovering oneself should transfer well. Her experience with these themes and settings should create a good foundation for this new novel.
This book is the second official lore book so far. The first one, The Hero of Numbani, released on June 2, 2020. This revolved around Efi Oladele and her creation Orisa. While some readers wished that it went deeper into the lore, it provided an entertaining story that immersed audiences in the world. Filled with easter eggs and tidbits to make fans smile, more can be expected in this upcoming book.
TGH will continue to cover this and other Overwatch lore releases. Stay tuned and follow to keep up to date!
