Tonight, the New York Rangers host the struggling Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers will go one-on-one against their longtime division rivals, the Rangers. Will the Flyers’ struggles continue? Or will a win start something special, leading them on their way to playoff contention?
The Rangers
The Rangers are on a roll. Their record of 13-4-3 is the third-best in the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. They have won three straight games, also winning seven of their last eight games. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox lead the team with 21 points. Fox leads the Rangers in assists (17). Chris Kreider is right behind them with 18 points, but leads the team in goals (15) and PPG (9). Kreider thanks his fellow teammates for his power-play success, especially Panarin. Kreider says that Panarin is “one of the best in the world at misdirecting opponents.”
Igor Shesterkin will probably be in as the Rangers goalie. At least he should be. His record is 11-3-2 with a goal against average (GAA) of 2.22 and .933 save percentage. If the Rangers decide not to go with Shesterkin, they will go with their backup goalie Alexander Georgiev who has been struggling. He is 2-1-1 with a GAA of 4.08. His save percentage is .858. Hopefully, the Rangers head coach, Gerard Gallant, will put in Shesterkin.
The Flyers
The Flyers are not doing so hot. They are 8-8-4, seventh in their division, lost two in a row and are 2-6-2 in their last 10 games.
Claude Giroux leads the team with points at 17, also tying Cam Atkinson and Joel Farabee for the team lead in goals (7). Giroux also leads the team in assists (10).
Carter Hart will probably be in goal for the Flyers. He is 5-5-3 with a 2.67 GAA. His save percentage is .92. Their backup goalie has similar numbers at 3-3-1 and a GAA of 2.87 with a .921 save percentage.
Tonight’s matchup consists of two division rivals. What is going to happen? Are the Rangers going to continue their great success? Will the Flyers lose another? Or will the Flyers use this as an opportunity to maybe start something amazing, possibly leading them to the post-season? Find out which team will claim victory tonight at 7 p.m.
