The Anaheim Ducks relieved Randy Carlyle from coaching duties. Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray will take over as interim coach.
The Ducks are currently on a seven-game losing streak (0-7-0) and lost 19 of the last 21 games(2-15-4). They are tied for last in the Western Conference with the worst goal differential.
Carlyle, 62, is the winningest coach in Ducks history. During his tenure, he led the Ducks to three Western Conference appearance (2006, 2007, 2017) and a Stanley Cup in 2007. He went 384-256-96 in 736 games and appeared in the playoffs in seven out of eight seasons. He is the only individual in NHL history to play in 1,000 NHL games and coach 900+ NHL games. He coached the Ducks and the Toronto Maple Leafstotaledalled a 475-334-115 all-time record.
Murray, 60, has no experience as a head coach in any level. He is the longest and winningest GM in Ducks history with a 445-278-101 record. Murray is also the fifth person in NHL history to play and manage 1,000 career regular season NHL games. He spent his entire playing career for the Chicago Blackhawks playing 1,008 games and scoring 514 points (132 G, 382 A). He started his started his managing career in Chicago from 1997 to 1997. After his stint in Chicago, then he scouted for the Ducks and Vancouver Canucks.
On July, 2009, Murray was announced GM for the Ducks. Since becoming GM, he was a three-time finalist for NHL General Manager of the Year (won in 2013-14). He led the Ducks to the playoffs in six consecutive seasons and have five consecutive 100+ point seasons (Longest active streak in the NHL).
The team still have a shot at making the playoffs with Murray as they are 6 points from the final Wild Card spot. The franchise is moving on from the Carlyle era and now are focused on the future, Stay tuned for more NHL news.
