On Tuesday the San Jose Sharks began their five game road trip with a 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Game recap: First period
Throughout the period, there were several hits and shots blocked by both teams. San Jose fell short of faceoff wins against the Flyers at 11-9.
The Flyers’ Joel Farabee netted the first goal with a wrist shot, assisted by Morgan Frost.
Filip Zadina’s backhand goal, assisted by Luke Kunin and Alexander Barabanov, evened the score just before the period ended. Zadina has three points in his last five appearances.
The first concluded with the score tied at 1-1.
Second
Thomas Bordeleau drew a hooking penalty at 2:42 in the period to put the Flyers on the power play.
At 6:24 Team Teal went on the power play when Philadelphia’s Travis Konecny got a penalty against Givani Smith.
San Jose’s Justin Bailey served a penalty for a ‘too many men’ call, drawing the Sharks second penalty.
Just 20 seconds into the man-advantage, Frost’s wrist shot, assisted by Konecny and Cam York, made it 2-1.
The Sharks had another opportunity on the power play when Egor Zamula drew a hooking call against Alexander Barabanov.
At 11:41 Garnet Hathaway was called for an elbowing against Jacob MacDonald, giving the Sharks an advantage again.
Zadina netted another tip-in, this time assisted by Kunin and Klim Kostin, just seven seconds before the power play ended.
The Sharks drew two penalties, while the Flyers faced three. Philadelphia dominated in faceoff wins more than double at 16-5. After 40 minutes of play, the Sharks trailed in shots on net 27-21.
The third
At 5:09 in the third, the Flyers’ Owen Tippett got a tip-in goal assisted again by Konecny and York.
The Flyers kept things tight, tallying 15 shots on net to the Sharks’ nine in the period. Philadelphia outhit, out-blocked, and outshot the Sharks in their victory.
After 60 minutes of play, the Sharks were outshot 42-29 and outhit 28-23. Blocks came in close at 12-11, Flyers. Team Teal won 33 percent of faceoffs throughout the game.
Sharks’ goaltender Magnus Chrona made 38 saves with a .927 save percentage. Zadina’s two goals earned him second star of the game despite the defeat.
The Sharks play their next road game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
