Pick #1 – Buffalo Sabres: Owen Power, D, University of Michigan
There has been some speculation about who the Sabres should take first overall, but in the end, they will go with the big defensemen Owen Power has been the consensus #1 pick for a while and has the potential to be a superstar defensemen with his size and talent.
Pick #2 – Seattle Kraken: Matthew Beniers, C, University of Michigan
With the first selection in franchise history, the Seattle Kraken will go with the safe pick in Matthew Beniers who is a great two-way center with a 200-foot game and will be their franchise center going forward.
Pick #3 – Anaheim Ducks: William Eklund, LW, Djurgardens IF
The Ducks need to add scoring to their offense and Eklund would be the perfect winger to put next to Trevor Zegras. Eklund is a skilled winger with amazing puck skills and has the potential to be the best player in the class.
Pick #4 – New Jersey Devils: Luke Hughes, D, US Development Program
The Devils reunite the Hughes brothers by selecting Jack Hughes’ younger brother, Luke Hughes. Hughes is a dynamic offensive defenseman with tremendous upside and fills the Devils’ need of an elite defenseman.
Pick #5 – Columbus Blue Jackets: Brandt Clarke, D, Barrie Colts
The Blue Jackets could go several different ways with the 5th pick, but in the end, they will find a replacement for Seth Jones in Brandt Clarke. Clarke is an excellent two-way defenseman who will be Zach Werenski’s future defense partner for years to come.
Pick #6 – Detroit Red Wings: Simon Edvinsson, D, Frolunda HC
The Red Wings go with an interesting pick in Simon Edvinsson who has shown great potential but is inconsistent with his play. Edvinsson has a unique blend of size and strength and could be Moritz Seider’s future defense partner in Detroit.
Pick #7 – San Jose Sharks: Jesper Wallstedt, G, Lulea HF
The Sharks are headed into a big rebuild and they first need to strengthen the weakest part of their team in their goaltending. Wallstedt is one of the best goalie prospects we have seen in a while and would help the Sharks goalie depth tremendously.Â
Pick #8 – Los Angeles Kings: Dylan Guenther, RW, Edmonton Oil Kings
The Kings have one of the brightest futures in the NHL with their up-and-coming center core. Now, they need to address the winger position. Guenther is the best goal-scoring winger in the class and would fill the Kings’ need for a top-line winger.
Pick #9 – Vancouver Canucks: Kent Johnson, LW, University of Michigan
The Canucks take the hometown kid in Kent Johnson who is one of the most skilled players in the draft. Johnson is a dynamic forward with amazing offensive talents but lacks defensive abilities. Johnson would fit perfectly in the young Canucks forward core.
Pick #10 – Ottawa Senators: Mason McTavish, C, Peterborough Petes
Mason McTavish has risen his draft stock tremendously within the last few months with his impressive play. McTavish is one of the few natural centers in this draft which is something the Senators need.
Pick #11 – Arizona Coyotes: Forfeited Pick
Pick #12 – Chicago Blackhawks: Fabian Lysell, LW, Lulea HF
The Blackhawks take Lysell, who is a fast and skilled playmaking winger.
Pick #13 – Calgary Flames: Chaz Lucius, RW, US Development Program
The Flames are looking for a top 6 sniper winger and Lucius fits that category.Â
Pick #14 – Philadelphia Flyers: Carson Lambos, D, Winnipeg Ice
The Flyers are in desperate need of defense so they take the best defensive defenseman available.
Pick #15 – Dallas Stars: Cole Sillinger, C, Sioux Falls Stampede
The Stars take Sillinger, who would be the best player available at this spot.
Pick #16 – New York Rangers: Aatu Raty, C, Karpat
The Rangers are in need of a center, so they pick the biggest boom or bust player in the class.
Pick #17 – St. Louis Blues: Nikita Chibrikov, RW, SKA St. Petersburg
The Blues need help on the winger and Chibrikov would be the perfect Tarasenko replacement.
Pick #18 – Winnipeg Jets: Corson Ceulemans, D, Brooks Bandits
The Jets are looking to bolster their defense so they take the best defensemen available in Ceulemans.
Pick #19 – Nashville Predators: Matthew Coronato, LW, Chicago Steel
The Predators are entering a rebuild and take the best player available who also fills a positional need.
Pick #20 – Edmonton Oilers: Sebastian Cossa, G, Edmonton Oil Kings
The Oilers are still looking for their future starting goalie and finally, find one in Cossa.
Pick #21 – Boston Bruins: Brennan Othmann, LW, EHC Olten
Othmann would be the perfect fit in Boston’s physical system and has a scoring touch.
Pick #22 – Minnesota Wild: Zachary Bolduc, C, Rimouski Oceanic
The Wild are in desperate need of a center and take the best center available.
Pick #23 – Detroit Red Wings (via Washington Capitals): Fedor Svechkov, C, SKA St. Petersburg
After taking a defenseman, the Red Wings are adding a good two-way center.
Pick #24 – Columbus Blue Jackets (via Toronto Maple Leafs): Xavier Bourgault, C, Shawinigan Cataractes
The Blue Jackets’ biggest need is a center and they take the best one available.
Pick #25 – Minnesota Wild (via Pittsburgh Penguins): Logan Stankoven, LW, Kamloops Blazers
The Wild take Stankoven, who would be the best player available at this spot.
Pick #26 – Florida Panthers: Simon Robertsson, RW, Skelleftea AIK
The Panthers take Robertsson, who is a strong two-way winger who fits the Panthers’ system.
