The 49ers may have paved their way to Super Bowl LIV after a convincing 37-20 victory over the Packers, but that did not stop the critics from making noise. Specifically former NFL All-Pro, Darrelle Revis. Revis took shots at fellow cornerback Richard Sherman over twitter following the NFC championship game.
Revis, who played his last game in 2017 after 11 seasons in the NFL, seemingly called out Sherman by tweeting a picture from his home. The photo depicts Sherman attempting to cover Packers wide receiver Devante Adams.
Revis captioned, “Fear of getting beat in man to man coverage. Every snap every play. The fact that he doesn’t travel as a cornerback is lame. Except the challenge as the best and shut Adams down the entire game. Do it for the game of football. Stop hiding a cover 3 zone.”

Of course, Sherman responded with his own caption after retweeting the photo, “I would go in on this has been but I have a Super Bowl to prepare for. Enjoy the view from the couch. Your ninth year looked a lot different than this.”

The beef between the two All-Pros did not stop there. Revis defended himself by stating, ” All y’all think I’m throwing shade. I’m not. Just stating the man is not a pound for pound man to man corner. If you know the game of football he plays in a Cover 3 Scheme. He does not travel but traveling with a receiver is not for every DB. It’s a few on the corner list who can.”

In turn, Sherman fired back by posting a picture that seems to show Revis getting beat in a coverage himself. The San Francisco corner captioned, “Pound for pound…. lmao this kid has selective memory.”

A entertaining as the twitter exchange is, it is hard to choose a better corner as they have both had spectacular careers. Revis and Sherman are arguably the two best cornerbacks to be produced over the last decade. With a collective total of 12 Pro Bowl and seven First Team All-Pro selections, Sherman and Revis revolutionized the cornerback position.
Sherman will have his opportunity to prove his critics wrong once more as he heads to Miami for his third Superbowl. The 49ers will take on the Kansas City Chiefs for the NFL title.
