Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is now in concussion protocol after Week 3’s Sunday Night Football loss. He must go through all five phases of the protocol before being cleared to play. On average, players are in concussion protocol for nine days.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Garoppolo completed 28 of 44 passes on Sunday night for 324 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. He was also sacked four times. This loss led to the Raiders being 1-2 on the season, tied with the Chargers in their division.
The Raiders play again in the 4:00pm ET window on Sunday. If he is in the concussion protocol for the nine days it usually takes players to clear, he would miss the game. Brian Hoyer and Aidan O’Connell are his backups. O’Connell was a preseason superstar, but given Josh McDaniels’ long history with Hoyer, he would probably start for Vegas if Garoppolo cannot go.
