Langer was widely known as one of the best centers in football history. He was a six-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro. His play helped the Dolphins win two Super Bowls. One of those Super Bowls produced the only perfect season in NFL history for the 1972 Miami Dolphins.
He spent 10 seasons in Miami and finished his career with two seasons on the Minnesota Vikings. Langer was named a part of the NFL 1970s All-Decade team and the award for Division II’s offensive lineman of the year is named after him.
There has been no reported cause of death.
