The Eagles (5-6) will hit the road on Thanksgiving weekend to take on the New York Giants (3-7). The Eagles are coming off their second win in a row as they beat the Saints last weekend easily. Philadelphia is coming into this game as a 3.5-point favorite against the Giants. The Giants struggled Monday night against the Tampa Bay. Buccaneers as they suffered a 20-point loss. Furthermore, Jason Garrett who was their offensive coordinator was fired after that loss. This article will give a preview of this Week 12 Philadelphia Eagles game against the New York Giants.
Keep the running attack going
The Eagles have found success in the running game recently. This new game plan came about while Miles Sanders was on the shelf with an ankle injury. Boston Scott and Jordan Howard got the ball rolling as they both had impressive games during those few weeks. In the Eagles’ last game against the Saints, Sanders found the same success running, as he was just shy of 100 yards.
The Eagles need to keep this running attack going against the New York Giants. New York is ranked near the bottom half of the league in run defense as they are 22nd in that category. The Eagles should find success with a healthy dose of Sanders and Howard running the Rock. Not to mention the threat of Jalen Hurts‘s running ability. Expect the Eagles to get a lot of their offensive yardage on the ground this week and maybe beat their rushing total last week which was 242 yards.
What does Jalen Hurts need to do?
Jalen Hurts just needs to be a leader and keep doing what he’s doing throwing the ball. Last week he really took care of the ball while he was passing. He did not make many dangerous throws, which he has done in the past. Hurts has improved in recent weeks. The only negative aspect about Hurts right now is that can hold on to the ball a little too long, which runs the risk of taking a sack. If he can get rid of the ball a little quicker, then the Eagles could have more success in the passing attack. The Eagles also need to utilize Hurts while they’re in the red zone like they have done in past games with the quarterback run or the read option. If Hurts can do the same thing he has done all year, then it will give the Eagles the best chance at beating the Giants.
What do the Eagles need to do Defensively?
Slay has been the Eagles’ defensive star in the past couple of weeks. In the Eagles game against the Broncos, Slay had an 83-yard scoop and score for a touchdown. Also, just last week he had a 50-yard pick-six for a touchdown against the Saints. Slay needs to keep being a factor in games, as he has helped the Eagles out a lot in the past couple of weeks. The Eagles also need to pressure Daniel Jones in the pocket as much as possible to force him into mistakes. Jones also can run the ball, which the Giants have utilized quite a bit in recent years. He is not the fastest, but he is big, and he is hard to bring down. Lastly, the Philadelphia defensive line needs to bottle up Saquon Barkley. If he ends up running all over them, then it could be a long day for the Eagles defense. This concludes this Philadelphia Eagles Week 12 game preview.
