This is another edition of the Philadelphia Eagles Rundown. This will give the latest news that involves the Eagles and what is going on within this organization. This edition will talk on Darius Slay wanting to recruit Steven Nelson to play in Philadelphia with Slay and how Nelson has done in the NFL so far. This edition will also cover Doug Peterson saying that the Eagles did not draft Jalen Hurts to disrespect or undermine Carson Wentz.
Darius Slay wants Steven Nelson in Philly
In a tweet sent out on July 6, Slay sent an interesting tweet to Steven Nelson. He hinted at the fact that Nelson should come to Philadelphia and that he would look good in green.
Aye @Nelson_Island that green will look good on ya👀

This would benefit the Eagles greatly, since they are thin at the cornerback position. The Eagles had Slay and Avonte Maddox doing most of the work in the 2020 NFL season. Maddox started eight games for the Eagles in 2020. He had 40 combination tackles and 36 solo tackles in his last campaign with the Eagles. Slay, who some say underperformed last season, did help the Eagles a lot in the backfield. He provided the Eagles with one interception in 2020, which could’ve been better given Slay’s elite status as a cornerback. Slay also had 59 combination tackles and 53 solo tackles during the 2020 season.
Nelson has been in the NFL for several seasons. He spent some time with the Kansas City Chiefs and more recently he was with the Pittsburg Steelers. Nelson is definitely an above average cornerback and would help the Eagles make some headway in adding more depth to the position. His numbers are bit down from his 2019 season, however. Nelson had one interception that year. He did, however, have 52 solo tackles that year which is impressive, and he would help the Eagles out with tackling. In his most recent season, Nelson did record more interceptions as he had two in 2020. He also racked up 43 solo tackles from that year. This tweet by no means is saying that Nelson is going to the Eagles. Slay is just trying to do the Philadelphia a favor in throwing the Eagles name in the hat as a possible landing spot.
Pederson on Eagles not trying to undermine Wentz
Doug Pederson, who was the former coach of the Eagles before Nick Sirianni, had a couple of interesting things to say about the Eagles drafting Hurts while having Carson Wentz. Pederson said on Sirius XM radio that the Eagles are always looking for quarterbacks and it was not a hint that the Eagles were planning to take Wentz’s starting position.
Former #Eagles Head Coach Doug Pederson discussed last season, Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts, and how he reflects on his time in Philadelphia.
Take a listen to what he told us recently…

Hearing this from Pederson is an interesting insight on what is going on within the Eagles organization at the time. Wentz did have success with the Eagles earlier on when he was in Philadelphia. During his last couple seasons, Wentz was plagued with interceptions as he had 15 in 2020. He was later benched in favor of Hurts, who had a successful college career at Oklahoma and Alabama. All of this led to Wentz wanting out of Philadelphia and ultimately, he was traded to the Colts. Hurts went on to have a promising few games as the Eagles starter and is the likely candidate to start for the Eagles in 2020.
This concludes another edition of Philadelphia Eagles Rundown. Be on the lookout for more of these in the future as news comes out on the Eagles.
