The Philadelphia Eagles just signed veteran cornerback James Bradberry. His deal with the Eagles is short-term as he signed a one-year contract worth $10 million with $7.25 million of that money guaranteed. This is a great signing because players at cornerback for the Eagles besides Darius Slay are young and inexperienced. The signing of Bradberry brings a veteran player that has proven to be a productive player within the NFL. This article will provide a review of Bradberry’s career thus far and how he can help the Eagles this season.
What has he done in the NFL so far?
Bradberry has spent a total of six years in the NFL already. He was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Bradberry was successful with the Panthers from the very beginning. As a rookie, he had 59 total tackles, two-interception and three tackles for a loss. Bradberry started 13 games in 2016. He had even more tackles in 2017, as he racked up 85 total tackles and two interceptions. He put up about the same numbers through his 2019 season with Carolina.
It was in 2020 when Bradberry went to a new team and a new city. Bradberry went to the New York Giants. During the 2020 season with the Giants, Bradberry put up some impressive numbers. He had three interceptions, two forced fumbles and 54 total tackles. He made it to the pro bowl for the first that season. Recently, in 2021 he raised his interception total to four and 47 total tackles. Safe to say that Bradberry has already did some great things during his NFL career.
What can Bradberry do for the Eagles?
Bradberry is still in the same division but with a different team in the Philadelphia Eagles. This will be the first time in a while that Bradberry has had an opportunity to possibly make a playoff run. However, there is a lot of work still to be done and things are not guaranteed.
His help on the defensive side of the ball should do the Eagles wonders. He has speed and can get anywhere on the field in a flash. Bradberry is at his best when he is in zone coverage, but he can also work man to man just fine too. One of the most eye-popping qualities about Bradberry is him being able to generate turnovers. He has good hands and can pick the ball off, but he can also force fumbles as well. The Eagles could always use more players that can give them extra possessions in games. Hopefully, Bradberry will be able to stay on the Eagles for more than a year and will get locked into a longer contract after the 2022 season is over.
Overall, the Philadelphia Eagles made a great decision in signing James Bradberry. The Eagles are young at cornerback and adding him gives another veteran presence besides Darius Slay.
