As free agency begins in the NFL a lot of interesting things have already happened for this Philadelphia Eagles team. One being that the Eagles will not place an RFA tender on linebacker Alex Singleton, which means he will be an unrestricted free agent come March 16th. In other news, it has been reported that Hasson Reddick will sign with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Reddick signing will certainly help the Eagles pass rush in 2022, which was near the bottom of the league. This article will go in depth on both topics as the Eagles are already making moves in the free agency market.
Singleton testing the free agency
It is unfortunate that Philadelphia did not want to tender Alex Singleton. The Eagles linebacker is great at making tackles and is usually all over the field making plays. His numbers for the 2021 season are monstrous. He had 137 total tackles on the season. Furthermore, Singleton, had one defensive interception that he returned for a touchdown and a fumble recovery. Whoever decides to sign Singleton will have to pay him some money as he has been a great linebacker in the NFL
Losing Singleton would leave a huge hole at the position. Their other linebackers behind Singleton are Davion Taylor and Jacoby Stevens. Taylor got some playing time in 2022 as he had 41 total tackles and two forced fumbles. Stevens on the other hand got virtually no playing time. He has one tackle recorded in 2021. The Eagles would have to find another linebacker in free agency or take one in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Hassan Reddick signing is huge
The Eagles just got a lot better at the Edge position with the signing of linebacker Hasson Reddick. Even though he is a linebacker, Reddick probably will not replace Singleton’s spot. Furthermore, Reddick is there to put pressure on the quarterback and get sacks for this Eagles defense. As said above Singleton primarily made tackles and stopped the run for Philadelphia. Â It is reported that the Eagles and Reddick have agreed to a three-year deal worth around 45 million with 30 million guaranteed.
Reddick is a sack machine as he had 12.5 sacks with Arizona in 2020 and 11 sacks with Carolina in 2021. Reddick is quick off the line of scrimmage and can fly by defenders to get to the quarterback. Furthermore, he also brings production in tackling in general. In 2021, he had 68 total tackles. He also had 12 tackles for a loss last year as well. The new Eagles linebacker will certainly provide help in putting opposing defenses behind the chains.
More is to come for the Eagles in Free Agency
The Eagles have already made some headlines and it is only the beginning of free agency. Expect the Eagles to make some more big moves in the coming days. These moves could include signing another wide receiver to help Devonta Smith and that receiving core. They also need to fill holes in the secondary, which also could be done through free agency. Another thing to keep an eye on is if the Eagles will sign a quarterback. Howie Roseman has already confirmed he is going to stick with Jalen Hurts, but would a possible Jimmy Garoppolo trade be too tempting for the Eagles to resist? Philadelphia will provide answer soon enough as free agency will rolls on for the Eagles.
