The Broncos have hired a new head coach after firing Vic Fangio immediately after the conclusion of the 2021-2022 season. Former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett has been selected as the Broncos’ next head coach.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.
The #Broncos are finalizing a deal with #Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett to make him their new head coach, per sources.
Contract talks heated up Wednesday night. The #Jaguars planned to interview Hackett again today. Instead, Denver lands its top choice.

Hackett landed this job after helping the Packers to three straight 13 win seasons. He was responsible for drawing up the plays that led Green Bay to two NFC Championship Games in 2020 and 2021, and to the lone first round byes in 2021 and 2022. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers also won an MVP (and will likely win a second one this season) in Hackett’s system.
This hiring may go a long way in maybe swaying Rodgers to choose the Broncos in a trade. After the 2020-2021 season concluded, Rodgers reportedly demanded a trade before things were smoothed over, allowing him to return. He has more power over where he ends up in his newly reworked contract. The Broncos grabbing his former OC may be a play for Rodgers.
