Super Bowl champion kicker Matt Gay officially has a new team. The former Los Angeles Rams kicker is signing with the Indianapolis Colts for a huge four-year, $22.5 million deal. This is the most money a kicker will ever receive over a three year period.
The NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news on Monday.
Gay was actually chosen in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, with the 145th overall pick. He was chosen by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but was waived in September of the same season. The Colts signed him to their practice squad in 2020, leaving the Rams to grab him in November.
He’s made 101 of 115 field goals in his career, for a career percentage of 87.8. Gay’s longest field goal was 58 yards. During the Rams’ Super Bowl-winning year, he had a career-high field goal percentage of 94.1 percent.
