The Madden 22 ratings have finally been unveiled. As always, there are some questionable ratings for players on every single team. In this series, TGH writers will give their opinions on the most overrated and underrated players on each roster. Here are the Madden 22 most overrated Cincinnati Bengals.
Mike Hilton
It isn’t often that a former Steeler is embraced by Cincinnati, but Hilton has been signed by the Bengals. He has been a solid slot corner for the Steelers over the last four seasons. In 12 games in 2020, Hilton had 51 total tackles, 3.0 sacks and seven passes defended. There is no question he is effective when he is on the field and he is one of the best blitzing corners in the league.
Madden 22 gave Hilton an 82 rating for this season. This rating puts him ahead of guys like Joe Haden and Adoree Jackson. It also makes him a top 35 corner in the game. That is a little too rich for Hilton, even if he is a solid slot corner. Hilton could have a major impact this season, but is rated just a little bit too high. This is especially true because of Pittsburgh’s blitz-heavy scheme opened up a lot of opportunities for him that may not be present in Cincinnati.
Madden 22 rating: 82
Adjusted rating: 79 (-3)
Ricardo Allen
In free agency, the Bengals signed Ricardo Allen, who formerly played for the Atlanta Falcons. He is currently not a projected starter for Cincinnati, but will see the field when more defensive backs are needed on the field. In Atlanta for the 2020 season, Allen played in 12 games, totaling 25 tackles, two interceptions and five passes defended.
Allen was a good signing for the Bengals, but his 79 rating is a little too high. He is rated the same as a few impact safeties in Juan Thornhill, Landon Collins and LaMarcus Joyner. The Bengals are experimenting with having more safeties on the field, but that doesn’t mean that Allen will make a huge impact. His own teammate, Vonn Bell, is rated the same after totaling 113 tackles in 2020. Allen can play well this season, but his rating is a little too high to start.
Madden 22 rating: 79
Adjusted rating: 77 (-2)
Eli Apple
Another player who was added this offseason was Eli Apple. He has bounced around the league since being a first round pick back in 2016. The Bengals will be the fourth team he has played on and last season he only logged two games for the Carolina Panthers. Apple has to find success in Cincinnati or it could be his last stop in the NFL.
Apple is rated at 75 in Madden 22. That makes him a top 20 player on the Bengals in the game. It also makes him a top 80 corner in football. He has the talent to perform that well (and even a little better than that), but he hasn’t proven it on the field. For someone who was released by the Panthers after two games and then not picked up the rest of the 2020 season, Apple needs to show what he can do on the field before getting rated that highly.
Madden 22 rating: 75
Adjusted rating: 71 (-4)
