The Panthers hired their offensive line coach, Pat Meyer, from the Chargers and he had been pushing to trade for his former left tackle. Carolina needed to address the offensive tackle position this offseason.
Los Angeles is in the midst of a lot of changes, as Philip Rivers, Melvin Gordon and Hunter Henry are all free agents and will likely leave the team. Acquiring Turner will make their offensive line younger.
Okung, 31, is a two-time Pro Bowler who has spent time with the Chargers and the Seahawks.
Turner is a 26-year-old guard who has made the Pro Bowl five times in his career.
