The Arizona Cardinals have fired their head coach less than a year after giving him a six-year extension that would’ve lasted through 2027. Kliff Kingsbury was let go as head coach after giving Arizona a 4-13 season as they intended to go to the playoffs in back-to-back years.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Not only was Kingsbury fired, but General Manager Steve Keim also announced he was stepping away from football to “focus on his health.” He was also signed to an extension through 2027 at the same time Kingsbury was.
Since 2019, Kingsbury has gone 28-37-1 in 66 games as the Cardinals’ head coach. His best year came in 2021, when Arizona went 11-6, were the final undefeated team on the season and lost in the NFC Wild Card round to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams.
