Reports indicate that Jessie Bates III is joining a new team. The Atlanta Falcons are said to be signing Bates for a yet undisclosed amount of money and length of time. Bates is likely a casualty of the Bengals needing to sign Joe Burrow to a large contract.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Bates was a second round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals out of Wake Forest. During his career there, he made the Second Team All-Pro in 2020 and helped Cincinnati to its first playoff win in over 30 years.
He played in 16 games last season, starting all of them. In a contract year, Bates had four interceptions, eight pass defenses, a forced fumble and 71 combined tackles. His four picks were a career high, but his tackles were a career low by 17.
