Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson will not be traded ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Multiple teams showed interest in Watson, but ultimately, no deal is expected to be done. The Miami Dolphins were the reported front-runners. Dolphins’ owner Stephen Ross even requested a meeting with Watson, but arrangements were not made in time.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
And with the Dolphins declining to make a QB trade before today’s deadline, Deshaun Watson now is expected to remain on the Texans’ roster until after this season, when the team can explore a trade for him again at that time.

Watson has refused to play for the Texans after publicly requesting a trade in the offseason. He has held true to those feelings, as Davis Mills and Tyrod Taylor have started at the position in his absence. Complicating things are complaints from over 20 women that Watson harassed them during massage sessions. Civil and criminal cases are pending on those matters.
It is decidedly unsure if Watson would be able to play if he were traded. The NFL has remained cagey on whether or not he will be placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt list while the lawsuits against him play out. To be fair, the NFL front office has been put in a favorable spot on that front, given that Watson has refused to play for the Texans anyway. If he were traded, commissioner Roger Goodell would be forced to make a decision, which may well have resulted in his inability to play for his new team.
Trade talks will surely begin anew when the offseason begins. Stay tuned to TGH for more NFL news, including all trade deadline deals.
